Question:
Holy. Maybe that sort of thing is what I’m in for too. I get the Zyprexa supposedly for sleep and appetite and because it helps with mania maybe, but I’ve never been manic in my life, only what they call hypomanic. Only takes 2.5mg to put me to sleep for 7 or 8 hours. Too strong for me.
Hey, I forgot the Zyprexa. My shrink tried it on me, and the side effects made me severely sick. When I went to see him again to get off the stuff, he regretted I had made such a reaction because according to him the med worked just great on me, just the side effects were intolerable. — Teilhard Knight The Extraterrestrial Who ate my sandwich?
Response:
If you are labelled Bipolar II, what do you do?
My shrink refers to my condition as manic-depression type II psychosis, and nothing has worked for me for the bipolar II part, only the psychosis. I use Risperdal (2 mg a day (very small dosis)) and I feel ate easy about paranoic tendencies. I have discovered lately that plain and simple Valium helps with the bipolar part, but I am not allowed to take the stuff for longer than three days straight in a crashing episode, because it is very much liever-toxic, and I have to watch out my liver. I am used to be mainly depressed, but lately, I have had to stand manic episodes more often. — Teilhard Knight The Extraterrestrial Who ate my sandwich?
Response:
Zoloft, 75 mg/day (I get more depressed than hypomanic) Lamictal, 25 mg/day, can increase to 50 mg if hypomanic Ativan, .5 mg PRN, mostly for anxiety and PTSD crap Trazodone, 50-100 mg. PRN for sleep during hypomania. Rarely use.

Only takes 2.5mg to put me to sleep for 7 or 8 hours. Too strong for me. I think I would like to try some kind of combination that included an antidepressant. I have too many symptoms of depression, too depressed. I went through most of the BP meds before Lamictal. It’s worked the best with few side effects. Everyone’s different, of course. The docs say they have a large success margin with it in their patients. Worth asking for.
I think I will. I just started on an anti-convulsant a few months ago and it is like a miracle pill for me. But it has lowered my scores on depression inventories by only about one-quarter to one-third, which just isn’t enough. I need to get at least halfway down the scale. All the way would be nice, but right now it’s unimaginable. Exercise helps even out moodswings once the meds are on board. Meditation helps greatly to keep thoughts and body in balance.
I got a bike, but promptly caught both the flu and a cold and my lungs still haven’t recovered. Soon though. I don’t meditate near as often as I should, nor for as long. I’ll have to get working on that. I keep trying to, but there is always distraction or forgetfulness or something. Right now, I am trying to learn a complicated one too, but am still having difficulty actually getting started. Maybe I should go back to the basics for awhile. If I could make a schedule that worked, maybe that would do it. Thanks for replying. I am going to ask about trying different stablizers. — Compute Free <http://debian.org<http://freedos.org<http://openbsd.org Get a Life <http://gadenrelief.org<http://ipb.org<http://www.msf.org <http://icbl.org<http://www.icrc.org<http://iwpr.net<http://rawa.org <http://greenpeace.org <http://gush-shalom.org <http://www.moveon.org

I have a new official diagnosis, I guess. It seems to be Bipolar II, Depressed, Due to General Medical Condition. The depressed part just refers to the latest episode and the general medical condition part has to do with history, no bipolar relatives, onset of first symptoms following a head injury and aggravation of the condition twenty-four years later following medication with Effexor. I’m taking valproic acid, a gram a day, and olanzapine, 2.5mg per day, but I just found an article from the Mood Disorders Association that claims lithium, carbamazepine (Tegretol) and lamotrogine (Lamictal) may work better than valproic acid (Epival). Also, the article claims that anti-depressants are safe for 90% of those who fall into the category of Bipolar II. I’m in an out-patient program too. I just finished relaxation training and a group thing called Managing Depression. Soon, I start drama therapy and some kind of interpersonal therapy for people with mood disorders. I am also in the process of joining an artists collective for crazies, takes months, that. Hi Bev, I’m off to the doc myself soon. I’ve got to tell him about one manic episode I’ve had and a few hypomanic episodes, as well as a severe depression and many moderate depressions I’ve had. I too was wondering what I was in for. I’ll let you know when I see the doc in two weeks. Wish me luck everyone, I’m really nervous. I’ve gotta tell them about my son too, who seems to be so similar to me. Right now I’m emerging from a flat period into a slightly more activated period. I feel like going out again and being social again. I had been a hermit for a while, but I feel life coming on again. I’m keeping a mood diary and it’s amazing to see that there is a pattern emerging. Good luck, and let’s hope that these things get better with medication and time. preciosa

Mood stabilzers or anti-convulstants for everybody and then different or no other meds.
Well it won’t be too long to wait. Thanks for replying

lamictal might be a good choice. i’m unipolar depressed, but lamictal has helped quite a bit. it’s the only "mood stabiliser" to do so. i’m up to 150 mg bid now. -lisa

Wow this scares me. You only take 25mg of Lamictal? I must be one hell of a sick person. My pdoc has me on 1500mg a day. No that was not a typo. I guess I need serious mood stabelization. I won’t get into the others as it seems Bev got many responses. Bev, if you want more info, email me. Take the NOS out of my hotmail address and I should get it. Ken

I’ve taken Valium recreationally.
