Wellbutrin and anger

Question:

Hi, folks. I’ve been doing a little of the always-reliable internet research, and it seems that anger/rage is a lesser-known side-effect of wellbutrin.  Does anyone else know anything about this?  If my anger is, at least in part, a side-effect of wellbutrin, is there any other drug to take with it that might sort of level me out? The depression’s been alleviated, so I hate to competely give up wellbutrin.

wellbutrin. Hi: I found Wellbutrin did the same thing. It turned me into this VERY angry, anxious person. Even the benzo’s I was on didn’t keep me calm. Although, some poeple seem to have no problem with it. I do know this medication is a very stimulating medication. So, YMMV. It’s really up to you….do you wish to try another med? It took me 6 years to find the right med..and many others seem to report it takes quite awhile to find the right med. Again, I am not trying to downplay what Wellbutrin has done for you. Best to mention these effects to your doc…. Let us know how you make out…best wishes.. James

I know when I was on Paxil I would get anger and rage – That could have been do to my PTSD also. Paxil also made me hypo manic – I liked that side effect. :^) John

I also could not deal with the anger and agitation that wellbutrin  caused. I guess there’s no documentation, but I ended up in the emergency room twice while I was on it.   I now only take a mood stabilizer and klonipin or valium when needed.  Feel much better, and have not been back to the ER. — :-)

Chris…the solution my doc had was to take me off the wellbutrin (Just after 2 weeks) because the anger/frustration level was so unbearable.  The insomnia I could deal with, but the exaggerated level of frustration was unbearble for the ones around me…Good Luck!

I’m really curious about this as I am considering taking zyban(wellbutrin) to get off of nicorretes, but if it has a potential to increase anger and hostility I think I’ll pass.

wellbutrin. I experienced agitation as a side effect of Wellbutrin that often took the form of extreme rage. Wellbutrin is the only anti-depressant of the 6 I tried that worked, but I found that I could not tolerate the degree of agitation and anger I experienced on it. When I discontined the Wellbutrin, most of the anger and agitation went away. I hope you can find a solution. I feel for the frustration that a med that is successful getting rid of the depression has this very unpleasant side effect. But my doctor, at least, could not suggest a drug to help. I already was taking Valium, and still do, but even increasing the dosage while on Wellbutrin did not stop the anger. Best wishes, Karen
