Question:
Kym and Everyone, It’s Joden. Wow! I never heard of that reference. th*rps has always been just a short hand for me, but then I Never read FMS posts. I will be more careful in future. Thanks for the info.
Response:
Just wondering… Is this just shorthand for a therapist? I am asking because um… better give you some room to not read about fmsf reference if you are sensitive to it please : : A couple years back, I was engaged in some argumentation with some women who felt that they had been implanted with ‘false’ memories by therapists. They referred to these therapists as ‘therps’ like "perps"…. I get a little triggered (not too much) but also a little confused on some of the posts because of this. There seems to be benevolence in posts with this reference in them, so I guess I’m just whining about semantics. But just needed to put this out here. Am I the only one who has been exposed to this type of reference? Am I misreading posts? Thanks Kym and Everyone

when this subject came up sometime earlier this year, folks seemed to settle on using "t’pist" and "t’py" as shorthand for therapist and therapy. — For more information about this service, send e-mail to:

Okay, this is Joden. Thank you for the info on the agreed upon terms. I will keep them in mind (I hope). Just ignore the jokers. They don’t really get humor yet.

so if I pronounce t'py, it sounds like t.p. So we go to the t'pist to get the sh*t from the past cleaned up and then we can flush it away from us forever? Hihee!!! sorry, Jodan inc

Ummmm... <chewing fingernail here For me, anything that references fmsf is a lot more comfortable under a spoiler. I go back and forth so often about whether any of us (internally) are real, that any outside naysayers have a lot of power. Of course, I may be the only one so affected by this... <fully believing that I can be a real pain in the neck sometimes, whoever 'I' am Lots of people here use t'pist or T to mean therapist because of just this sort of thing. I don't know that most people have been 'exposed' to this sort of reference as much as they figured it out in their own head from seeing the word in print. In either case this group generally uses some abbreviation for the word (it also makes typing easier:)
Wasn't exposed to it personally -- saw references on the group and changed to t'pist to make others feel more comfortable. Didn't really make much difference to me which abbreviation was used. I'd say in general, in this group, it's _really_ obvious if a person is talking positively or negatively about a t'pist.
Really? <ducking and running Personally, I always talk positively about t'pists unless I use words like 'idiot', 'stupid' etc to clarify how I feel about a specific t'pist. (feel free to ask me about this one in particular I saw who was a total moron! *grin*) But like I said, it's usually pretty obvious in a post if the writer is slanting the comments positive or negative.
Somehow I have the feeling that asking you about this stupid idiot moron would be opening the door on a good rant. I haven't seen a good rant in awhile. So, Jill, how do you feel about this specific t'pist? <grin Oh yeah, in case I haven't said 'hi' to you yet, HI! *grin*
Hi from us too, Beautywalk. It's nice to type to you. :) Take care, Kanga

okay... I just figure better safe than sorry. References to fmsf triggered me badly a few years back, when I was going through some critical analysis of some recovered material, so I wanted to be considerate just in case. - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text - Just wondering... Yes, that's what I figured. I'd say in general, in this group, it's _really_ obvious if a person is talking positively or negatively about a t'pist. There are some here who have had really bad experiences with t'pists (or just one bad experience and some good ones) and who write about t'pists in a negative way. Others of us have basically had only positive experiences and write from that view point. Of course some of us can flip back and forth between the two sides:) Personally, I always talk positively about t'pists unless I use words like 'idiot', 'stupid' etc to clarify how I feel about a specific t'pist. Yes. There is a very big difference between expressing difficulty with therapist, or therapy, or working on feelings in transference, and referring to therapists as "therps" who have implanted false memories. Would it help if we try to not use the word 'therp' in this group? Obviously I can't promise it but we could try to make the effort. Or would it help if you thought of the word 'therp' being pronounced like 'thairp' (which is how I 'hear' it when I see the word)?
It's not a big deal to me-- I just wondered outloud about it. Oh yeah, in case I haven't said 'hi' to you yet, HI! *grin* Rainbow Colors (Jill)

I got this email this a.m. and rofl'd... it's genuine, from "Deep Thoughts by Kids": Alert!!! Toilet humor hee hee.... submitted for your giggling pleasure! Kym & everyone :-) I gaze at the brilliant moon. The same one, I think to myself, at which Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato gazed. Suddenly, I imagine they appear beside me. I tell Socrates about the national debate over one's right to die and wonder at the constancy of the human condition. I tell Plato that I live in the country that has come the closest to Utopia, and I show him a copy of the Constitution. I tell Aristotle that we have found many more than four basic elements and I show him a periodic table. I get a box of kitchen matches and strike one. They gasp with wonder. We spend the rest of the night lighting farts. Age 15

Well, _you_ may fully believe it but _I_ haven't seen evidence of your 'pain in the neck'ness here. Ok, so fms cr*p gets spoilered, cool. Oh man! Let me tell you! *grin* Here's the scoop: I was in the hospital and about 20 years old. I was totally unaware I was multiple but I was also totally clueless as to why my body was apparently su*c*dal (_I_ wasn't but I kept noticing that my body seemed to be). Of course there was the PTSD stuff, the time lost, the other problems, the major depression (which again wasn't 'mine' but was present anyway) and so on. So, I went into the hospital and I was assigned this dimwit psychiatrist who was about a million years old and so classically freudian it was absurd. He kept insisting that I was ungrateful to my parents for all they did for me (I used to get furious at this one and demand he tell me _specifically_ what these people did that was so wonderful. All he could come up with was stuff that wasn't true. Like he said 'well, they paid for your college tuition' and I said 'nope, they haven't given me a penny for any of my college. I'm working three jobs for this') Basically he made assumptions about what he thought my family was like and refused to listen to reality. Then he told me I was just a spoiled young lady who didn't know what I wanted out of life. That earned him some gleeful laughter and lots of rude comments. He also tried convincing me that I was being melodramatic for attention and manipulating others because I thought it was fun. By now I was totally confused as to _who_ he was talking about because he obviously wasn't talking about _me_. At about this point (I had been in the hospital about a week) I told him to take a flying leap (only I was more rude:) and refused to talk to him from then on (I was in the hospital a total of six weeks). I would bait him, say rude things to him, tell him to his face he was incompetent, etc. It got quite amusing
[standard multiple disclaimer: when I say 'I' most of the time in this post I mean 'we' because at the time I was switching all over the place and rarely dealt with this moron myself] Fortunately, I had a very competent psychologist while I was there so I got a lot done. No one ever mentioned the multiplicity to me although I think my t’pist saw it and knew what it was. I think he didn’t mention it because several of us were so unstable he didn’t want to add to the whole mess (a very smart move on his part!!!). As soon as I left the hospital I wrote a letter to the admin telling them how incompetent the doctor was. Good enough rant?
Rainbow Colors (Jill) PS- In my endless quest to destroy the reputation of incompetent morons in the world, this doctor’s name was Roth. Oh yeah, in case I haven’t said ‘hi’ to you yet, HI! *grin* Hi from us too, Beautywalk. It’s nice to type to you. :) Take care, Kanga
