Question:
Just wanted to share for those that asked about books about PTSD. Here are some that I have read so far and would highly recommend: 1. Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman, M.D. 2. I Can’t Get Over It by Aphrodite Matsakis 3. Memory and Abuse by Charles Whitfield I have a stack of books I have finally admitted to needing. They’re about recovering and healing from sexual abuse. If I find them to be great and recommendable then I’ll post later. Kristine The unexamined life is not worth living – Socrates

Another one is "Too Scared to Cry" by Lenore Terr. Bee Diary of a Hushed Child http://members.aol.com/hushedchild

Hi Kristine, I was reading your post about good books to read. My therapist makes ref to those all teh time and she always gives me a few chapters to read. The only bad thing with me is that my concentration is so bad that reading is difficult. I even lose interest in here if the posts are too long. I am sure that they would be helpful to me tho. Oh well. Thanks for posting that list. Be well, OddFroggy

Would it be easier to have the book on tape so you could listen? I’d be willing to tape record a book or two. I think I’ve even got some of those books, plus some others that are good. Welcome back. I’ve missed your odd self. Risa __o o__ o__ o__ _ <,_ _.>/ _ _.>/ _ _.>/ _ (_)/ (_) (_) (_) (_) (_) (_) (_)

Hi Risa, I am glad to see that some of you still remember me. I have been out of the loop for quite a while but I am going to stick around now. Who knows I might even reply to some of the posts once in a while. Take care and thanks for your kind words. OddFroggy

I’m glad to see you too Froggy…reading what you can is absolutely great, every bit helps and they are good books. I would have to put Trauma & Recovery at the top of my personal list. A couple of the chapters gave me more info than I’ve gleaned in all my readings. When I finished it, I was pissed. go figure. So I painted…hubby said I have talent but they are disturbing LOL. I wasn’t going for talent, just release, and it felt damn good. I’ll be using my watercolors again soon. Kristine The unexamined life is not worth living – Socrates

I would appreciate if discussion about violating copyright laws were contained to e-mail.

Just want to add my endorsement of Trauma and Recovery. It’s the best book I’ve read, too, on pstd. I wrote down some of the passages that particularly hit home for me, and I keep that sheet of paper in my wallet. I pull it out and read it when I’m out and am in a "bad spot". It helps as much every time. Hannah
Response:
Hi Hannah! That’s a great idea, carrying portions with you. Very good idea…I used to do the same with scriptures that helped me at the time. Kristine The unexamined life is not worth living – Socrates

Another good book to check out is "The Courage To Heal"

What are you the book police?

I’ve grown to admire people who take risks. I just find some risks aren’t worth the consequences. You never know who is reading along. At any rate, you should do what you want to do.
