I don’t think whoever wrote this suffers from PTSD.  With a chorus of demon memories and related problems like depression, the idea that you can determine how you feel is bizarre.  Let’s hope whoever dreamed up this list never experiences PTSD Marvin – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Rebecca wrote: > > I found this on my mom’s bulletin board at home and I stole it from it and > > taped it inside my journal… > > 1. I used to agree with you.  How could I who was experiencing all these conflicting emotions be responsible for them? Then, with help, I understood that when I was traumatized, I unconsciously started to choose retraumatizing thoughts and behaviors.  This was NOT purposeful on my part; ‘it just happened’.   My therapist’s work was and is involved in ‘reframing’ my experiences. Reframing, in my case, is asking me to find alternative explanations for ’stuff’ that has happened to me. With sufficient reframing, medications, therapy, and meditation etc.  I am learning to take responsibility for my ‘having a good day’ despite the crazed things that I see, feel, and hear.  When part of me ‘goes out into the ozone’ I am learning to accept my reactions and ‘pull myself back’ to the present.  Each visit to the ozone involves fear, panic, exhaustion etc.  I spend a lot of time ‘recovering’ from these trips. That is why PTSD, even in the recovery stages, is so disabling. The mind conjures and the mind can be retrained.  We CAN retrain our minds.  The process can take decades for those of us with PTSD, but it is possible to reduce the ‘trips to the ozone’ and become better functioning citizens. Don’t give up on yourself!  There is a better life out there for you too! Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

I found this someplace and thought it might be appropriate to post here. 1. I AM responsible for how I feel. 2. I am NOT responsible for what people have done to me. 3. I AM responsible for what I do with what has happened to me or what people have done to me. 4. I AM responsible for what I learn from my life experiences. 5. I AM responsible for what I have said or done to others, regardless of what they have done to me. 6. I AM responsible for making amends when I have harmed others. 7. I AM responsible for not listening to my intuition. I hope someone gains something from this.
