raft

Question:

Actually it is a Trauma Support Family which is on-line and not an ng. We have crisis intervention included. People are from a number of places. About half use ASD too for discussing more issues and getting a wider range of views. RAFT is made up of the gentle pple tho and has no flame wars or public criticisms. It is all support most times. Tho we share laughs and jokes too. So ASD and RAFT have some differences and yet go well with each other.                                                  Songbird           From DID To DAFT Dissociatives In Distress To Dissociatives Advocating For Themselves! http://www.geocities.com

It isn’t an exclusive list of ASD.  It is a mailing support list for PTSD, and some of us happen tp coincide.  Never fear, you aren’t being excluded or anything. smiles eternitiiiii Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.                  –Marcel Proust

RAFT is not nor never was meant to be an exclusive grp of ASD. It is more of a Trauma Recovery grp with pple with many dx that also suffered Trauma. It is on-line e-mail group, has crisis support, and uses Trauma Anon as one of its coping tools. Much of our posting is for folks with deep depression and self-h’rm feelings. We felt a grp like this was needed because ASD was so adament about not doing crisis intervention but referring them elsewhere immediately. We do not cover many of the other issues and have the number of pple to give the different views that ASD does so well. It is a moderated grp which tries to help the more fragile pple work their way up to having coping skills to deal with life. ASD is one of the places our grp begins to try out their new skills once they feel safer if they are dissociative~which many are. I see the two grps as complimenting each other, not exclusive of each other. RAFT has been around since August 1998. It is by nature a smaller grp becuz so much time is needed for each ind. I hope that explains RAFT a little better. Oh dear, is that what it means? Um…yeah, I’m wondering now too. Pooka – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – — For more information about this service, send e-mail to:

Good to hear. It is more of a Trauma Recovery grp with pple with many dx that also suffered Trauma. It is on-line e-mail group, has crisis support, and uses Trauma Anon as one of its coping tools. Much of our posting is for folks with deep depression and self-h’rm feelings.

Kewl that there is yet another place ppl can go to for support. We felt a grp like this was needed

Curious…. who you are speaking about in the "We". because ASD was so adament about not doing crisis intervention but referring them elsewhere immediately.

"Adament" with sound logic.  This is a posting board more or less.   There is no immediate send-reply-receive mode of operandi.  Ppl in extreme crisis, particularly of the life-threatening, self-h*rm, etc will not be able to get the immediate help they are in need of. "Hands are tied" so to speak.  Glad you (and whoever else) saw the need and addressed it.  Must admit though, that when I read this, I hear/see both what I just said about the "need" and addressing it and also, as a ‘put down’ to ASD and those of us here, myself included, who’ve spent time communicating with those in immediate crisis to seek help from their T’s and local agencies in their area. We do not cover many of the other issues and have the number of pple to give the different views that ASD does so well. It is a moderated grp which tries to help the more fragile pple work their way up to having coping skills to deal with life.

Kewl.  Sounds really good.  I’d be concerned if the zealous to do this help with "the more fragile ppl" is being done in the total _absence of_ encouragement to/and the building of direct, immediate support systems professional &/or otherwise in their community.   ASD is one of the places our grp begins to try out their new skills once they feel safer if they are dissociative~which many are.

New skills, old skills, forgotten skills.  A mix really.  Maybe it’s just me here, the phrasing you’re using Songbird… comes across like there’s some kind of ladder, building, deeper level, hierarchal thing going on in respects to ASD and RAFT.  Is that what you (and others) think? I see the two grps as complimenting each other, not exclusive of each other.

Ok. RAFT has been around since August 1998. It is by nature a smaller grp becuz so much time is needed for each ind.

Is this healthy?  I mean the amount of time the "helper(s)" and "helpee’s" are spending.  What you describe sounds excessive and I have to wonder about just how healthy that really is, ie. the amount of time the "helpers" are spending and the quantity of time a person is focused on and all on the net versus say, moderate engagement on the net that compliments increased autonomy, self-efficacy in rl.  If I recall correctly, I believe I recently read in one of your posts, a concern from a professional in your life about the amount of time you’re spending on the net versus being in real life and dealing with that.  Apology if I have you confused with someone else.  Seems to me that it was you and I guess what I’m saying here, as it applies to you, is that maybe my pointing this out and a professional also recently pointing this out to you has validity.  Food for thought, k. I’m not invested in being critical of RAFT nor its participants.  I’m simply giving some feedback here on how the information you’ve given is coming across to me.  Raises some important issues and concerns for me. I hope that explains RAFT a little better.

It has.  Thanks for sharing it.   Sierra of TN – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If you are interested you can check out http://www.egroups.com/list/raft

Went to the url and found it requires giving personal info, including email address and name and stuff. Can’t do that safely, especially cause there is no indication that it won’t be passed on, either to others on list or whatever. Oh well. I guess it is exclusive, in a way. b.           From DID To DAFT Dissociatives In Distress To Dissociatives Advocating For Themselves! http://www.geocities.com
