Question:
Is this a forum where I could discuss developmental delays caused by family violence? Minus gruesome details of course. Please advise. Amber
Response:
Dear Amber, I believe that this is what this NG is about, which is allowing each other the oppurtunity to express ourselves and the traumas that got us while at the same time trying not to trigger someone else with gruesome details. If we aren’t allowed to express the pain that caused us to get here, how can we ever expect to recover. Family violence and domestic violence are the sources that put me in the shape that I am in. I have been lurking in several NGs hoping to find one that I can express myself and not feel condemned, but supported. I’ve learned a lot from this support group even though I have just been listening to the others for about a month which is when I got online. Being new here, I hope that I have not spoke out of turn, but Amber I believe that you will be well recieved by this group because they seem to be very compassionate group, and I for one feel that we have some things in common to share. I welcome you here and hope to hear from you again. Hi Amber! Welcome! > Is this a forum where I could discuss developmental delays caused by > family violence? Minus gruesome details of course. Please advise.
Surely. This topic has become interesting to me lately. It turns out that while I was deep in the heart of untreated PTSD myself, my son was being abused sufficiently by his father that he now also suffers from PTSD. His conflicts have resulted in a real struggle to get him educated (school is a secondary trigger). I’m beginning to believe that this is a ‘family disease’.
OTOH, I do think that he and I can stop the cycle … or at least slow it down significantly … by our own choices, now that we are becoming more aware. YMMV Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

Its fine with me. I have PTSD as a result (in part) of family violence. Did you want to discuss family violence in genreal or something in particular. Either’s fine.
