Question:
Rich Oh yes, do I ever notice it. The thousand-yard stare was what they called it in the first WW. Do you find the thoughts in your head go fast? I feel it’s that I’m trying to sort through those thoughts and for awhile I’ll have no idea what my eyes are looking at. My pdoc has snapped his fingers in front of me a few times. The only way I know to lessen it is to focus on something….like t.v. or a conversation. I find I have to keep physically busy to keep the thoughts out. It’s a normal symptom of PTSD. I had a friend that was aware and would nudge me if I was shaking or staring. That helped cause you don’t even realize you are doing it. LA ———————————————————– Got questions? I stare. It looks like I am spaced, but I am very aware of everything around me-hyperaware. I find this very embarassing, and I haven’t found a way to stop it. It’s worse when I am tired. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

I can’t wear contact lenses for this reason. Funny, though, I thought it was just a quirk of mine. People often get weirded out because I look straight through them. It’s a lifelong trait with me, but then again, other child abuse scars haven’t left either, so maybe I should’ve guessed.

Hey Rich, I get like that too and I start shaking my head too when I do it. I look like I belong in a loony bin when I am off to that la-la land! What is bad is when I do it in public area, I forget where I am and I go off into my own little world. Anyhow all that to say that you are not alone in feeling that way!
