PTSD Self-Management: Can we add to the list?

Question:

Group, here’s a new topic, and one that I hope will create substantial dialogue. When you respond, please observe snippage netiquette, because this is a moderately long post. Let’s discuss: (From New York Presbyterian Hospital’s website, regarding PTSD self-management:) Some of the measures a person with PTSD can take to maximize recovery are: 1.Meet regularly with your therapist and/or support group. 2.Learn techniques of stress management, assertiveness, relaxation or self-hypnosis. 3.Avoid highly stimulating or violent TV, movies, music, videotapes, or situations that increase your anxiety or symptoms. 4.Since sleep can be a problem with this disorder, learn techniques to promote restful sleep. 5.Eat a well-balanced diet. 6.Exercise regularly and vigorously. 7.Discuss the social use of alcohol with your therapist or counselor. 8.Avoid street drugs. 9.Work at forming and maintaining friendships and a network of support. 10.Work diligently in therapy. 11.Accept that there may be setbacks. 12.Take medications regularly if prescribed. 13.Ask for help when it’s needed.
