Question:
I am sorry to hear you are in bad shape- as for therapy to handle the anger look into vesuvial therapy(somewhere to vent the level of anger physically without hurting anyone.) and I might also consider going hunting.( my grandfather was a fireman and had a regular trek with one of his best buds to go hunting). Go on a cruise or find a new hobby with tools do something you really liked doing or have been meaning to do now that you have the free time. learn a new language. you have been in the force for a while you probably care about your community- get involved in a physical level where you don’t have to deal with the administration side of things. like help building a community garden or habitat for humanity- and just say you would rather just be a work-horse and teacher than some who deals with the beauracracy- set your limitations early. Use your sick and annual leave and retire 5 months earlier. Breathe—– — a gem of solutions Andre Family <andre…@gci.net> wrote in message

First see the Doc, then let things take there course. Sorry you made this club, I’m a paramedic with PTSD, it sucks! I would love to eliminate the neuron deficient cretins we have running our service, at this point they are trying to eliminate light duties, contrary to a report that lays blame on them for one of our members! The other point, and I am sure it has crossed your mind, is it the people who are the problem or is it the system they work within? My dollar (okay 63 cents) goes on the system. Most of our stupivisors want to do the right thing but get nipped in the bud by the penny pinchers! How do you eliminate those urges, look at the 5.5 months you got left, take the time off and catch some trout, each one is one of the people you dislike. All the best to you, I hope you do okay, you took the first step and that says a lot. Richard "Andre Family" <andre…@gci.net> wrote in message

This is my first posting here, so I thought I was see if anyone had any ideas for me. I have been working as a police officer for 19.5 years, and am due to retire in about 5.5 months. As you can imagine I have been through many traumatic events, but I don’t need to go into them here. I recently was diagnosed with stress induced high blood pressure. It’s pretty obvious the stress of it comes from work, especiallly retard, irritating, administrative meat heads, because when ever I have to deal them, my BP jumps 20-40 points. Lately I have been off duty on sick leave because of the high BP, and guess what, it’s beem coming down nicely. I was referred to a Psychiatrist by my MD because I made the comment that it seems like I have two options to relive the stress that is causing this high BP. I said I could either stay off work until I retire since I have the sick and annual leave to do it, or I could just kill all the turd heads at work who piss me off, and believe me, with my skills and training I could do it and I bet I wouldn’t get even a scratch. So, my question is this. How does one go about controlling and them eliminating the desire to kill those who stress him out, make him mad, and run up his blood pressures? I don’t have any other ideas than to stay away from work. Please, no stupid comments, jokes, and other lame crap. This is a legitimate question, and I’d like a few ideas from people who have felt the same way. By the way, until I went out on sick leave, killing everyone at work, except a few I like, was getting to sound better and better each day. Signed, A cop

Sad to say, welcome. And sorry that you’re going through a hard time right now. The answer to your question really hinges on what the desires are and how prone you are to act on them. If there is a chance that you may act on these desires it is important to talk about them with you psychiatrist. That results can be catastrophic if you keep this to yourself when there’s a risk you may act on it. I find that this happens for me when I’m very angry. It also happens to be a very good way to deal with anger. There is nothing wrong with revenge fantasies, especially when voicing your anger is a problem. Many people though, don’t like this because it makes them feel worse about themselves to wish harm on others. Trying to suppress the thoughts really doesn’t seem to help much for anyone that I’ve talked to. The anger just gets shoved down more. The best advice is to find another way to deal with the. It needs to come out. It can be venting to someone who will let you after a situation. Saying that you’re angry and why, and then walking away. There are anger management classes and workbook for home use that offer really concrete ways understanding your anger, and ways to deal effectively with it. And of course, you psychiatrist is a good person to bring this issue up with. Dr. Weissinger’s Anger Workout Book is a good place to start. Check your local bookstore’s self-help section, or an online book service. Getting into a bookstore is good way to look through some choices, and then order later if buying the book makes you uncomfortable.

Hi cop! Welcome to our little nook of Usenet. I’m sorry that you seem to qualify. > So, my question is this. I’d like to suggest that staying away from work sounds a lot better than dealing with the aftermath stress of murder. :/ The consequences for your family, friends and co-workers you like would be horrible … let alone, we with PTSD have a significant fear of being trapped. Being physically trapped in a jail or prison might be a little unhealthy emotionally for you. Actually, you might seek out some other cops with PTSD on the usenet and web. We’ve had quite a few over the last few years with your same problem. A search at Deja News will probably turn up some leads … I’m hopeful that one of them lurks in this ng and contacts you directly. Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

Andre I don’t think I can help you on this on but you certainly did help me to release some stress by laughing my head off. I don’t think you’re the only one who think this way, but still I don’t understand you problems with your collegues, is it harrassement you are suffering from? If it’s the case did you tried making a complaint to your boss, it will probably give nothing but at least you’ll have documented facts to build your case on next time something like that happens.
