my ignorance due to some terminology maybe due to location- different countries refer to similar techniques with different acronyms. As I had said earlier I am up in Vancouver, BC, Canada. — a gem of solutions Diane <brinckerhoffdNObrS…@cs.com.invalid> wrote in message

Hi Gemma! Sorry this took me so long.  I can’t remember what EFT means. Someone from the group ASAP mentioned it a while back. Something about a naturopath (?) tapping part of the body and saying an affirmation.  This might help to ease the panic attacks.  Sorry!  I wish I knew more to tell you.  Thanks for replying, though.  Take care! hi diane You were asking for someone is is presently with a counselor who is using emdr in my sessions I have PTSD due to a multiple facets in my short 26 years of life-I unfortunately don’t know the are in which you live but there is a magazine here in vancouver called common ground and has a couple counselors that practice the technique.  I am presently with a counselor who is using emdr with me- be forwarned that there are many physiological reactions at times- depending on the memory- and the day after i have a session i am stiff and sore (have difficulty getting out of bed) She does the the technique by tapping on my knees – i am able to go for longer bouts of tapping though- i have had three sessions of actual emdr- 1 of determining my safe place, and one of determining what predominately needs to be addressed.  before i started the emdr(ie family dynamics, what brought me there in the first place and what I am reacting to at present)  I have a thing for holding my breath when i get near bad memories and she has to stop and remind me to take a deep breath. i am lot calmer for it, and i am much better functioning at work for it as well.  I don’t know how much you know about computers but i compare it too defragmenting a computer- it is like taking fragments of memory that relate and putting them together in a slot. one session i had i refered to it as crown molding as it had some good memories with the bad they all went together in a theme- you have the bad stuff but you had the good stuff to make a prettier picture of you. I will get into my trauma in another posting but this is more the benefits , reactions etc to EMDR I hope this has been of help to you- be forwarned these counsellors are not cheap Gemma Diane <brinckerhoffdNObrS…@cs.com.invalid> wrote in message

Thanks Gemma! I thought the tapping thing was EFT or something like that, but I may be wrong.  Thank you for replying and forewarning me.  I did get the list, but I’m hesitant to call.  I don’t even know if my ins. co. will pay for it.  I may call at the end of this week just to find out.  I really appreciate it!  Hope it works for you. Hi! This is the first time I’m posting here.  I’ve had PTSD for 16 yrs.  I was raped by 3 boys I knew when I was 14.  I’ve had anxiety, depression and panic attacks for all these years too. Has anyone ever heard of EMDR before and, if so, has it worked? I’ll come back later on and look for a reply.  My heart goes out to all of you who suffer as I do.  Thank you so much for your help.  I saw your second request for a reply, and will make an attempt to answer the query. If those initials "EMDR" refer to a type of therapy involving eye movement, developed originally for treating war veterans (I can’t remember the exact name), then I have a friend who benefitted from it.

Response:

Thanks for replying Salamander! I really appreciate it.  Yes, it stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing(?).  If you ever hear more from your friend about it, will you post it for me to see.  I’m sorry if I’m a pain in the neck.  I’d really love to know more about it from someone whose been through it.  I’m waiting for a list of doctors in my area who may use it.  Thanks again!
