New victim, need help/support

Question:

Hey, I just started taking Zoloft yesterday. Could someone who’s taken this drug tell us a little about it? Like how long it takes before changes start to occur, or any side effects experienced? Thanks Graham

Zoloft is an SSRI-type antidepressant often used for PAD. It should be started at a low dose which then can be raised slowly to prevent initial side effects. A benzo like Xanax may be added for this reason. You should give Zoloft a few weeks to kick in – up to eight weeks although many people feel the beneficial effec much sooner. I wouldn’t worry about side effects as long as you have none although sexual dysfunction is common. Philip

About 7 years ago, I was sexually assaulted by my best friend.  I buried the emotional pain and went on with my life.  I met a fabulous girl and we’ve been together for 7 years.  About 9 months ago, the person who assaulted me called my home.  Soon after I had a complete panic attack and breakdown.  I went to see a psychologist who diagnosed me with PTSD.  I was treated for 6 months with therapy and resolved alot of issues.     However, near the end of thereapy, I developed a chronic worrying problem.  I would be quite normal for two weeks and then go into a breakdown and nervous/anxiety/panic/depression for a few days.  If I talk to a therapist, he can get me out of it temporarily.       I went to see my family doctor who sent me to see a psychiatrist. He said I have moderate OCD and prescribed 50 mg Zoloft.  I’ve been taking it for 4 weeks and it has no effect yet.  If feel normal for a few weeks, with some anxiety.  But when the anxiety gets too much I breakdown into a worrying fit.  I want to get married and go on with my life.  Any suggestions? Am I doomed to breakdown every 2 weeks?  How long des Zoloft take to work? — Posted via Talkway – http://www.talkway.com Surf Usenet at home, on the road, and by email — always at Talkway.
