New meds,group meeting

Question:

Haven`t posted for a while so heres an update. Had to change meds–paxil was making my skin crawl and even hurt. new med Effexor seems to be doing better ( wish me luck ) went to my second group meeting with Vietnam vets,  like the group ( all 8 of us ) but the pDr  never was in combat and talks a lot ( I`de like to hear from the group) but its ok- the other vets really made me feel welcome.)   we`re all about the same age (50 ish) with the oldest at 62  ( I found out 50 is about the average age vets start seaking help for  PTSD.) I still have a lot of anxiety but I am sleeping a bit better and not as depressed ( hopfully the new med will help with that) I had a pleasent surpise—-I got my notice from the IRS that i will get some money back.   think I`ll take my wife out for a nice dinner tomarrow. Well y`all take care now, hear? Lee ======================================== Say what you mean ////////  Mean what you say. ======================================

Lee, good to hear that you think that your new group will be of some help. It’s important that you feel safe with the other vets if it’s a combat focus group. The first couple that I was in helped a fair amount for quite awhile. Just started a new group myself and I’m not too sure if I’ll stay with it. Been in too many groups over the years. The one thing that might keep me going is that one of the vets in the group was a gunship pilot with the Cav and was there at the same time I was (had very few opportunities to be in a group with someone who was where I was and can maybe help me find some missing pieces). Hope your Pdoc turns out to be a good facilitator and not just a talker. Funny about PTSD and anti-depressants. They seem to work for a while then stop working or side effects start up or get worse. Maybe it’s because we’re on them longer than anyone was intended to be on them. I may be about due for a change. Hope the new med continues to work better for you. Regards, Larry L. Lee,           Glad to hear things are starting to worrk out for you. From my experiences I got more help and understanding out of the other vets than most of the Mds. tim – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Lee of Texas wrote: > Haven`t posted for a while so heres an update. > Had to change meds–paxil was making my > skin crawl and even hurt. new med Effexor seems to be doing better ( > wish me luck ) > went to my second group meeting with > Vietnam vets,  like the group ( all 8 of us ) > but the pDr  never was in combat and talks > a lot ( I`de like to hear from the group) > but its ok- the other vets really made me > feel welcome.) > we`re all about the same age (50 ish) with > the oldest at 62  ( I found out 50 is about the > average age vets start seaking help > for  PTSD.) > I still have a lot of anxiety but I am sleeping a > bit better and not as depressed ( hopfully the > new med will help with that) > I had a pleasent surpise—-I got my notice > from the IRS that i will get some money > back.   think I`ll take my wife out for a nice > dinner tomarrow. > Well y`all take care now, hear? > Lee > ======================================== > Say what you mean ////////  Mean what you say. > ======================================
