Question:
Dear Jamilyn, Welcome. Thank you for your question. Your sensitivity in asking the question is appreciated. I have seen the word "Trigger" or "Trigger Warning" both in the subject line (as you suggested) or sometimes further along in the text, followed by several skipped lines to warn the reader before the wrirting begins . Sometimes a person knows ahead of time that their post may contain words, phrases or paragraphs that might "trigger" a memory, flashback or reaction of a disturbing nature. It has been my experience that when the word "trigger" appears, I have the choice as to whether or not I feel up to reading the post. Usually I read all posts to this group but sometimes (rarely) I am just not up to it. I always appreciate seeing the warning. Other, more seasoned members of this group may have additional suggestions to offer to add to my comments about "Trigger Warnings". Sometimes, as I wrote earlier, the "trigger warning" doesn’t occur until deep into the post. Sometimes it’s in the subject line as well. Looking forward to hearing from you, Jamilyn. Take care and welcome! Anne

Good question and I appreciate you asking it, as do others I am sure. Putting in "trigger warning" Is usually done when you are going to talk about abuse episodes, violence, experiences that led to PTSD, nightmares, graphic stuff that you may "feel" nothing about but you kind of know it should elicit a bad feeling…all that sort of stuff. I kind of lump it into the "stuff that causes PTSD or stuff that are symptoms of PTSD and are scary category" and leave it at that. Hope that helps. Kristine

Hi Jamilyn! > Good question and I appreciate you asking it, as do others I am sure. > Putting in "trigger warning"
I appreciate also your asking, but there is no way that you can prevent others from being triggered every once in awhile. Do not fear nor feel shame if you omit a ‘trigger warning’. I get triggered by some folks’ names around here. :/ Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

Hello All, I have been lurking a while here and this is my first post. I noticed that on some messages the word {Trigger} appears and I was wondering when this warning, I assuming, should be added to the subject line of a post.
