NEED RELATIONSHIP ADVICE! (OCD sucks!)

Question:

I have had OCD since i was 4 years old, and I have managed to keep it out of my relationships, untill now.   I have been with my fiance for 4 years and I am so in love. We’re getting married next year, that is if my mind doesn’t ruin it for me. Recently, I’ve developed a new obsession regaurding other girls.  Though I know my boyfriend is devoted and adores me, I can’t controll these irrational thoughts that he is thinking of someone else. When ever we have sex, even though he is totally focused on me, I think,"He’s thinking of someone else, that girl we met today, our friend Kristin. You’re just a croch to him, he’s just using you to fufill his fantasies." ] I also feel ugly and worthless when he tells me otherwise. I know it’s obsurd to think these things! It’s so frusterating!  Should I tell him that this is happening(he’s very understanding) Should I go to therapy with him? Please give me any suggestions. Thanks, Puck

Hey Fly, Whether your posts are fake or not, you give pretty good advice and support. Thanks so much for your reply.  I told my boyfriend about my problem and just how serious it was.  Since I have hidden the extent of my OCD so well, he had no idea it was so extreme. But slowly he is understanding and it is bringing us closer together. Thanks again, and don’t stop posting. Puck

Hi Puck, i think the sooner you tell him the better. if you find a good doctor (preferably a BT specialist) have him come to the sessions. This way he’ll have the chance to understand exactly what is going on. Knowing that you can’t control the OCD but are willing to get help for it will make him more willing and able to support you. Ideally he could even act as a coach if you ever start behavior therapy. You will need his understanding if your obsession progresses to the point where you need reassurance (that he isn’t looking around). That’s when it might get really tough and he needs to understand why, especially if you’re both having a bad day. You need the support of someone who can help you through this. Good luck. ————————————————————————– Fly ————————————————————————– I have changed my signature line so nobody gets confused when they read my posts: My posts up to 5/28/00 on this ng were all fake.  i do not have OCD. what I have is factitious disorder, or a need to pretend that i have OCD and other "disorders". please disregard all future posts of mine–if you wish to read them please do so at own risk.
