Question:
This is a copy of a message i sent to Bernard. It is elsewhere in the newsgroup, but is kind of buried, so I put it out here for those who visit and are interest in what certain types of PTSD are and literally what they looks like: I remembered a couple of movies that depict PTSD accurately. One is The Pawnbroker, it is a black and white movie, circa 1957 starring Rod Steiger. It is readily available at video stores in my area and so I suspect the same for your area. The second is, Armed and Innocent, a true story about a 11 year old boy who was surprised by thieves breaking into his house while he was alone. During the event he shot and killed at least one man. This movie was very accurate, but will probably be harder to see: it was on the LIFETIME channel on cable. I don’t believe it is on video but a call to LIFETIME will probably tell you when and if they are going to play it again. A third which is accurate (at least up until the last 5 minutes) is Fearless, with Jeff Bridges. This one is also readily available at video stores. I found the movie hit home with me, although the whole strawberry thing confused me: you’ll know what I mean if you see it.
Response:
You forgot Batman (the first movie especially). Really, no joke. Think about it. It’s shown more clearly in the comics by Frank Miller. (Not only Batman, but Two Face and Joker.) There are few symptoms I can’t pin on Bruce Wayne. Look for ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ by Frank Miller. ’Year One’ is good too as is ‘The Killing Joke’. By the way, I’m 48. ( I know you started to wonder) Brent
