Medication question

Question:

I’m on Serzone.  It reduces appetite slightly, I wish it would reduce it more. I’m surprised you are taking prozac as well.  Prozac didnt do anything for me, but if you take too much of any SSRI it makes you feel dizzy.  I tried adding St. Johns Wort to the Serzone and I felt dizzy.  It just seems that if you are on Serzone, you wont need Prozac.  I was never told about the sunlight. PS After about 3 months I found the Serzone unscrambled my thinking.  I read it has some affect on adrenalin as well.  I have some research material about Serzone being a drug of choice for PTSD.

IMO people with questions/troubles/discomfort with psychiatric drugs are emergency cases.  I think that ANY concern with a psychiatric drug deserves a telephone call (at the minimum) to the prescribing physician. Yes, I know that we with PTSD are accustomed to ’stuffing’ our fears and going bravely forward, not bothering the medical pros until the appointed hour, but … this is a symptom of PTSD, not a healthy reaction. Please call your doctor immediately.  Physical chaos can reduce your rate of recovery. Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

The advice is right, call the prescribing doc and report anything you’re worried about.  Its the best cure for anxiety about meds (which is the LAST thing you need right?).  I tried Serzone in my search for an AD that worked. It gave me tracers (visual distortions like LSD gives – so I’m told).  I am now taking 2 ADs – Celexa and the new addition of Wellbutrin.  I don’t know how many others need 2, but I sure did.  Adding the Wellbutrin helped with the depression tremendously.  I also take an anti-anxiety long-acting medication. No way would I be able to do anything I do now without THAT medication.   Ii hope the Serzone works for you.  All of us being different, its impossible to say there is "one" AD that works for all.  I tried about 4 or so before Celexa.  Just my experience.  Hopefully you’ve found yours…I remember how awful it was going through the trial and error method of finding the right one for me.  Good luck to you and definitely call the doc if you have a question about the med. Hello All, I’ve been put on a new med and wondered if anyone had similar experiences. * * * * * * * *******************  It is Serzone.  My depression was getting the best of me so along with the Prozac the doctor added this and my appetite is nil.  I don’t go back and see him for another week, but didn’t know if this was a side effect or if it is temporary.  The information I got with my meds was to stay out of sunlight and may cause dizziness.  So much for information on it from this Pharmacy.  My next stop is WEB MD, but the group understands my concern more than the inserts that come with the medicine. Leasa, I’ve never doubled up on ADs before.  I have taken both prozac and serzone separately.  I lasted on the serzone about a week because I use to get severe constipation on that class of AD.  You can check out this site for more information on serzone.  It mentions that like most ADs you could experience certain side effects for the first few weeks but that they usually fade after that. http://www.mentalhealth.com/ Lack of appetite isn’t unusual in starting some ADs – imipramine totally wiped mine out for about 6 days. I could look at food and want to eat it but couldn’t.  I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless you are anorexic – whereas losing a few pounds in that condition could be dangerous. And, of course, with all medications YMMV. (or YKMV….depending on where you are.:) ..
