I think that this has already been researched to a fare-the-well.  U.S. government teams (from the VA among others) were sent to Oklahoma City after the bombing to help the kids.  Somewhere on the net there must be an after-action report, etc. It might be easier to list some of the alternatives and have us respond, rather than ask us to reinvent the wheel. YMMV Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

Why not use the existing CISD (critical incident stress debriefing) Program? every time a shooting, suicide or other trauma happens that’s why they send teams of support staff into the schools. Of course, if the trauma is individual, no one knows. Nancy, good point. I was thinking, first any program should include incidents that occur at school, home, or in the community. The program should not interfere with any legal rights or responsibilities of parents, schools, etc. I am also thinking that a range of actions/events should be defined, and that any report should automatically trigger a response by the team. Contrary to what I’ve been researching, I would prefer situations/actions not be limited to life threatening situations, but to situations where this is the belief of the victim. I would like to include; bullying, harassment (emotional, physical or sexual), assault (emotional, physical or sexual). For example, I understand that some drug dealers are now threatening to inject people and make them addicts, or buy drugs from them. This isn’t a traditional situation to ptsd, but it may well have a person believing their life is at risk. I am also thinking that a program should provide a ‘justice’ component. Someone who can advocate for the victim. A medical component to address any medical issues, especial around sexual assaults, and a therapeutic component to offer immediate, and longer term management. What I have learned in all of my therapy is that my life may not have been actually been at risk in certain situations, but I believed it that it was. And that is something that needs to be addressed if others are going to avoid similar diagnoses down the road. I’ve also learned that when we have been victimized, we need advocates. Finding strength and courage when you believe your life is at risk is something we need support on. And of course, medical and physical evidence needs to be documented if the law is required at any point to protect the victim.

I imagine this qualifies as conducting research, so please say so if anyone objects to this post; kindly. I am greatly interested in petitioning local government to start/improve crisis intervention programs to avert new cases of ptsd. I would like to formulate a pilot project that can be used in the school system (K-12). I would like to know what people would want in such a program. Who better to ask than those who suffered because the programs didn’t exist? What would have made a difference in your life if such a program was available to you as a youngster?
