How did you find out you had PTSD?

Question:

>I would be interested to know how you found out and >how long it took.

I was 41 years old when an event triggered flashbacks and memories of incest. Two weeks later, I was admitted to a hospital.  Two days later, I was diagnosed with PTSD. So, my conscious mind got diagnosed immediately. Lucky me. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| "I have galloped my fiery steed through the gates of Hell and survived to return and tell about it." ~~AMe911

Hi everyone, I just had a thought about my own situation and how long it took me to discover that I had PTSD.I would be interested to know how you found out and how long it took.I think the first step for us all is actually finding out what our problem is then we can take it from there.I suppose we are the lucky ones who know what our problems are-but how many out there do not know what PTSD is and what they are going through? Interesting point about the ABC news story-maybe the start of some recognition for those unfortunate vets and what they went through. Talking about good movies which illustrate PTSD at it’s extreme-Apocalypse Now-I thought this was brilliant but only recently seen deeper into the movie and what it was about. Take care everyone-a day at a time will do! Steve

I just found out about my pstd about 1 year ago.  It was a relief to be told that how I was feeling was not at all unusual. I did not realize Apocolypse now was abpout ptsd.  I sure have learned alot about myself my children and others since I was diagnosed. Good luck with your life.. and I sometimes even take it 5 minutes at a time…. crawf…@online.bc.ca – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Stephen Waddell wrote: > Hi everyone, > I just had a thought about my own situation and how long it took me to > discover that I had PTSD.I would be interested to know how you found out and > how long it took.I think the first step for us all is actually finding out > what our problem is then we can take it from there.I suppose we are the > lucky ones who know what our problems are-but how many out there do not know > what PTSD is and what they are going through? > Interesting point about the ABC news story-maybe the start of some > recognition for those unfortunate vets and what they went through. > Talking about good movies which illustrate PTSD at it’s extreme-Apocalypse > Now-I thought this was brilliant but only recently seen deeper into the > movie and what it was about. > Take care everyone-a day at a time will do! > Steve
