Question:
I have been disabled for severe depression since 1987. Have had several renewal reviews, never been challenged. Dissociation and PTSD were added to my records a few years ago. However, I have _never_ given up the idea of becoming gainfully employed again.
I read an editorial in the paper today. The author was talking about how the unemployment rate worldwide was about 30% and how horrible that was. And I thought to myself; "Damn, that is WAY too low. Wouldn’t it be a better world if the unemployment rate was more like 70%." I mean isn’t it a sad commentary on our world that we think things aren’t going well unless everybody is out working in the coal mines. I mean wouldn’t a better indicator of the health of the economy be how many people took a vacation this year, or how many people are NOT working, or how many people volunteered this year, etcetera. Housing option (that no one told me about!!!). In St. Pete, where I want to live. Extremely easy to get around without a car. For elderly and disabled. Sliding scale, 30 percent of income. I qualify. Openings now. Should be able to reserve a unit within two weeks. Can have one cat with deposit. Do _not_ have to be in active divorce action (we haven’t started yet). Must provide furniture (can manage used stuff). Total independent living, decent, not a halfway-house dump. I know the place, it isn’t bad. Perfect point of transition to full independence.
this is terrific. this is totally great. this is what transitional housing programs are for. i’m really really happy for you. you will do well I am very sure of this.
i too feel confident you’ll do very well. Cool. Great. Bye-bye Larry.
heh. good one. it’s amazing how things can improve without certain toxic presences.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – -You’re legally disabled?? I didn’t know that. Yes, I am. -I also didn’t realize that -you are a recovering/recovered alcoholic. Did I get that right?? Recovering alcoholic. Recovery is forever. -I think -it was you who posted about being a "drunk" in some other thread. I -assume that means that you don’t drink any more but you consider yourself -an nondrinking recovered/recovering alcoholic of some kind. Yes. When I still went to AA meetings I introduced myself as "my name is Claudia and I’m a drunk". Made it more real. I wasn’t the only one. I have been sober 14 years. I _almost_ had a slip last December. The taste of the booze was so bad I threw it out.
congratulations on your successfull sobriety. you should be commended for that. its very hard even if you are not having life dificulties, you are doing a great job…… keep it up. -What is your legal disability, and how does it affect your life. If you -don’t mind me asking… I have been disabled for severe depression since 1987. Have had several renewal reviews, never been challenged.
