hostile GP

Question:

Any suggestions on how to deal with a hostile GP who I think doesn’t understand PTSD and has the guilts for how she handled me when I first went to her following my assault at work? She has suggested I confront my fears, that was on my 1st anniversary date recently but my specialist said no. Now I’ve developed a real dislike for people meddling in my life but as I am just starting a legal roundabout claim for damages  I can’t change GP’s or else it’ll look bad for me. I have started to vomit blood but I am afraid to go to the GP- what her reaction will be and more meddling. I suppose I’m minimizing this at the moment just to cope. On the positive side I’m getting better, slowly reducing valium and beginning to feel the fog lifting slowly. Barb — Barbara and Greg Cook

Hi Barbara Have had same experience, not only re: ptsd but other severe medical misdiagnoses before that!  So many docs stop learning after their degrees it is such a shame best wishes, Linda Barbara and Greg Cook wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Any suggestions on how to deal with a hostile GP who I think doesn’t > understand PTSD and has the guilts for how she handled me when I first went > to her following my assault at work? You should see a different doctor if you don’t trust your current one, or at least visit a local ER when this happens again; niether should look bad on you in court and, besides, your health is more important than any court case anyway.                                         Best Wishes,                                         Arthur

The type of help you need is where you are being helped to take control of your life in the way you want. I would see people meddling as another form of assault whereas I need to feel listened to and respected The best way to handle any GP or other helper is to ask them up front whether they know about PTSD and if they don’t ask them to refer you.  Be very careful before you trust anyone with your confidences. best wishes estelle
