Highly Sensitive Persons

Question:

Hi and welcome Katelyn, (I’m shore others will give welcome as well). Theres no need to apologise, because there are no rules except those that apply to NG’s in general. I feel very sorry for your problems. I think? I can understand how you can use one problem to cancel another. With me I can use my "desperate" feelings to eradicate much of my anxiety (sometimes) in social situations, when I get to this state, I feel I just don’t have anything else to lose by being more social! I’m sorry I don’t know much about EMDR, but I’m willing to learn! :) Regarding the "giftedness" statement. I feel that my SP has given me a type of  "insight" into myself, life and people that I would not have otherwise known about. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I don’t know…..Well, on second thought I think it could be bad. All I want to be is *normal*, and have the things most other ppl have. (to live a happy life). This group is minuscule compared with the likes of ASAP. I hope you and nick can find some useful dialogue here in this group for as long as you stay! Solo. Katherine N. Hi Katelyn. I’m moving into this NG since I have been called a social phobic by a psych when I described my troubles. I was getting great support in ASAP (alt.support.anxiety-panic) there are some great people there but since all the namecalling and childish fighting is going on I’m sure we can get this group on the move. I’m going to check out a book since I’ll be having a little more time on my hands the next few weeks. How did you like this book? Do you recommend it? Any other title you would recommend? nick – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Katherine N. Swan wrote: > Hi, I apologize in advance if I have disregarded any newsgroup rules. Hi, I apologize in advance if I have disregarded any newsgroup rules. I’m new to this newsgroup and believe I have SP along with PTSD, panic and other forms of anxiety, have always been shy but can sometimes overcome it by using my high anxiety to inquire about others in a social situation, often that is perceived then as I am outgoing. Can anyone relate? I just finished a super book entitled "The highly sensitive person" and it discusses the concept of shyness, social anxiety in a quite positive way…almost as a form of "giftedness". Any comments on this? Does anyone know of the new EMDR therapy in relation to social phobias or social anxiety? EMDR = Eye Sensitive Desensitization and Reprocessing.   Your comments are welcome, thanks for listening. Katelyn —

Hi nick and welcome, I agree with you about ASAP there are many good ppl there, but! I sent one post in and got some helpful remarks. However I didn’t want to formally introduce myself and join because I felt with my problems and deficiencies beside just the SP, That I would’ve been targeted, then chewed up and spat out pretty quickly there. Also I don’t suffer panic attacks anymore, well at least ones as described by many in that group. BTW that book of Katelyn’s does sound interesting.
