Hi Neal, I don’t think you put anything in the wrong place. It’s probably just one of those pesky ISP glitches. Tell us a bit about who Neal is?

Response:

I’m fairly new to newsgroups, and just accidentally posted this as a reply to another post.  I’m posting  it again here in the hopes of having a better chance of it being read. As someone who is newly diagnosed with PTSD, I am glad to have found this forum.  From what I have learned and been told by my therapist, I have chronic PTSD which has been building for 6 1/2 years.  Although it is a huge load off my shoulders to finally learn what has been bothering me and make me feel like I was coming apart at the seams, I also know that I still have a lot more to learn and it may always be with me.  The funny thing is that as a Firefighter, I see all kinds of terrible things.  I never thought an event in my own life would lead me down the road to PTSD – "it always happens to someone else" I thought.  Well, I could go on and on about how all the pieces fit together now, but the important thing is that I will get better, and hopefully be able to help others with this condition. I do have a couple questions that would help me greatly right now: 1) Does anybody here know of, or participate in any kind of support groups, and if so does it help? 2)  If so, does anybody know of any in the Portland, OR area? Thank you in advance! Neal

Response:

Neal, supprt groups, or group in person are good tools of learning, make use of them; I would call around a few clinics and try to get some direction on the better people and places who know about ptsd, best of luck in your search, Take Care, John De

Hi Neal, I don’t have any answers for your questions, but just wanted to pop in and say "hi".  Good luck in your healing. kath "Neal Dietz" <di…@pacifier.com> wrote in message

I didn’t receive this originally, hmm? Anyway, welcome Neal. sorry that you find yourself here. In answer to question number one, this newsgroup functions exactly the way that any in-person group works. It’s an opportunity to share your experiences, compare notes with others, get a different perspective on what you think and your interpretations, and generally feel encouraged to be making healthy choices for your life, to be validated, get advice, and to normalize your experiences. I think it is most useful when someone participates.
