Question:
Les, Just a thought, perhaps you are not allergic to Paxil or Serzone but a filler that might be used in both. Paxil and Serzone are perty different meds and to be allergic to both seems like a long shot. But, they could share a common filler. You could talk to your pharmacist and/or Dr. and see what they think. Allergies to fillers have happened. God bless, Mark – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello. I have been reading the posts here for a little while now. I’m not sure how well I fit in here. I grew up with my mother being an alcoholic, and have had many issues from that, even now that I’m away at college. I was diagnosed (if you call it that) recently as well as four or so years ago with having PTSD, and I’ve always been pretty anxious about things in general. I have a lot of trouble sleeping, I am afraid to be at home, I am often afraid of both life (!) and death (that I will get murdered), I am afraid of being around a lot of people, I am afriad of many social situations and avoid them. This can be especially tough at my age too when everything is so centered around partying etc. I have been seeing counselors over these issues, mostly depression and anxiety relating to my family situation. Recently, after things got pretty bad for me, I tried taking medication to help things. This has been really hard for me though. This is in part that my dad doesn’t know about any of this and I know he’s against these medicines (a lot bc my mother took some) and I’m afraid to lose him. But I also haven’t had an easy time with this anyway. I started with Paxil, which I ended up being allergic to. My throat felt closed up and I had trouble breathing to the point I started to feel pretty sick. I talked to the dr and then started taking Serzone. I developed a rash the two times I took it and my throat also felt a little closed. So I stopped that too. I am not sure if it was just me being too nervous about it that maybe these were psychosymatic (?) things, but I don’t know. Today I saw the dr again and she gave me BuSpar to try. She said I could do what I want about taking it- but she gave it to me so I could try if I wanted. She looked it up to assure me that there weren’t any occurances of serious allergic reactions to it, and there weren’t (in the PDR). But when I got home I looked online to see what it said, and on a number of sites it had warnings about allergic reactions to it. This worried me. I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with being allergic to medications, and also what people’s experiences with BuSpar have been. Well, like I said, I’m not sure that I fit in here, but I know I’ve seen these drugs names thrown around here. Also, you all seem very nice and I do sympathize with all of you even if I don’t totally relate to all you say. Best wishes to everyone les.
Before you buy.

Welcome Les, Sounds like you have the qualifications to fit in nicely here. I was on Busbar when I was first diagnosed with anxiety problems. I did not have a reaction to it, but that is not to say there is no possibility. I would also like to know if someone has had a reaction to Busbar or have heard of something on the side effects that would be of concern. : ) J

Don’t these liquid forms have as many fillers? When I was looking up on the site that had the ingredients in Paxil at least, I read what was in the liquid form and there was something in that one that I know I am allergic to (which I believe is something quite a few people are allergic to). I don’t know if this is the same in all of them. les.
I have *no idea*…. Philip

Since we are anxious people, we tend to worry alot about everything, including possible adverse reactions from medications. You can find hundreds of side effects for *any* med in the PDR (or elsewhere). BuSpar has a few side effects (like any other med) that can occur. The great majority of these are in the "nuisance" category, not in the "catastrophe" category. Chip

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Some meds (Prozac, Paxil I think, Celexa) are available in liquid form. Philip I read that Zoloft is now available in liquid form. I suppose this formulation is mainly for pediatric populations. It is 20 mg of Zoloft per mL (i.e. cc), so 1 teaspoon would equal (about) 100 mg. The liquid Zoloft is in a 12% solution of alcohol and should be diluted in fruit juice or some other liquid. Prozac and Paxil come in liquid forms, but my Monthly Prescribing Reference (Feb. 2000) gives no indication that Celexa comes in liquid form. Chip
Normallt it doesn’t. But my friend Diana (who posts here regularly) has proven to most probably be allergic to some *fillers*. So she tried to find meds with *no* fillers, i.e. in liquid form. She contacted the manufacturer of Celexa (and, if memory serves, Effexor) and they could actually provide liquid Celexa which she is now trying out with no allergic symptoms as yet. Earlier she was helped greatly by Remeron but the manufacturer of Remeron said they could not provide Remeron in liquid form. I find all this intriguing. Moreover, neither her doctor nor her pharmacist were willing to find out if any of these meds could be made available this way, so Diana had to make contact with the pharmaceutical industry herself and gloriously succeeded for which I admire her a lot, especially as she is having an exceptionally bad time. Maybe our learned friend L. Margrove (Larry? Lance? Leonardo?) could provide some more info here? Philip

Sorry to sound dumb, but what do you mean by a filler? Do you mean one of the inactive ingredients? Becuase I actually think that’s what it is. I found two that those two medications had in common, one which is also in the new one. I am wondering if it’s that. If so, it might be in a lot of them. les.
Right on both counts but they are not the same in all of them. It’s possible to find out, especially through the manufacturer. Some meds (Prozac, Paxil I think, Celexa) are available in liquid form. Philip
