Heart problems

Question:

In this newsgroup there are at least three cases of people who have got heart problems. These people are Doc, George and myself – are there any more? I wonder if there is a relation between PTSD and heart problems. It would make sense, wouldn’t it? I know Doc does think that his PTSD may have contributed to his heart problems. Maybe it is sort of a symbolic desease in our case.

I don’t have heart problems, but I have chest pains from time to time.  That, I attribute to anxiety attacks, although I had one so bad once I THOUGHT I was having a heart attack!! Weird how the mind affects the way we feel physically at times. Sincerely, Luanne

Chest pains that are not heart problems could be an affliction called costochondritis. It is not that serious, but can give you unwieldy sharp pains – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -LuanneP wrote in message <19990107002159.00857.00008…@ng-fi1.aol.com>… >>In this newsgroup there are at least three cases of people who have got >>heart problems. >I don’t have heart problems, but I have chest pains from time to time. In my years in EMS, I got into the practice of telling patients who were experiencing chest pain that I once saw a 3 inch thick book on a doctor’s desk titled "Chest Pain".  There’s all sorts of inflammations and unrelated afflictions that can cause chest pain.  None should be ignored or belittled, but jumping to conclusions without tests and a doctor’s evaluation isn’t so great either.  I would explain that standard protocol means we treat it like a cardiac in the field until a doctor rules it out. Some EMS personnel are not so sympathetic and quick to brand a patient a "fake" if cardiac signs are absent.  I wonder how many patients are abandoned in the midst of a full blown panic attack just because some burnt out EMT didn’t feel like filling out the paperwork generated by taking that patient to the hospital.  I had to find out the hard way.
