HBO America Uncover Story

Question:

Hey Gang,    I just watched a special on HBO  about people with PTSD and mulitple personality disorders.    It was a very hard thing to watch the people struggle with there inner demons, but at the same time it was also very uplifting.    1 story was about a police officer that was diagnosed with PTSD and multiple personality disorders.  He is working hard thru therapy, and still maintaining his career as a police officer. He was very open with his school and bosses about his disorders, yet they had faith in him and hired him and he has been given many awards for jobs well done.    I looked at that special seeing 3 different people in 3 different stages of recovery. 1 wasnt able to work, 1 wasnt able to work but took some college courses, and the 3rd was a fully functioning police officer.    That special not only made me cry for those peoples pain, but it also gave me great hope. Great hope that there is peace somewhere down the road. Probably not every single minute of every single day, but the peace can and will be there.    We just need to keep at it, and focus on our successes instead of our limitations. That show gave me some real hope.  If you have HBO, keep an eye open for it. Note that some parts may be difficult for some people to watch, but it is really informative. Sherry

Response:

is that the special that follows a college student around including into the hospital?  it originally came out about three years ago and it is one of the best documentaries on did that i’ve ever seen.  it really helped my family understand what i go through on a day to day basis dealing with everything.  i especially liked the part about the policeman.  it was good to see someone who suffers from did and is still very functional.

I sure did. Again i wish they would have made the special a little longer and really delved into the topic more.  I think for myself it helps me to see people in the Limelight come out about there disorders and struggles. Really helps me to put them into perspective, that they, like me, are just normal everyday people who have problems.  Its also a positive also, showing how this movie actress can suffer and yet still go on to function and make movies.  An Insperation!
