Feeling Better Today

Question:

Hi all, Just wanted to let you know that I’m feeling much better, and am back on track with low-carb and housework.  Both have been sorely neglected in the past few weeks. I had three scrambled eggs (in bacon drippings) for breakfast.  Lunch will be a large salad with olive oil/red wine vinegar dressing, and dinner will be either a chicken breast or Angus hamburger patty with a big pile of broccoli.  Might put cheese on either the burger or the broccoli. And I just washed a sinkful of dishes.  When they dry, I’ll do the next load, and so on, until I’m finished.  I’ve sprayed almost all the fabric in the house (except clothing) with Febreeze, and have opened several windows. It’s only 57 degrees, but the cool, fresh air feels wonderful! Thanks to everyone who has offered their support during these trying times. I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Carol

Don’t forget to put your feet up for a while and dive into a good mystery or the like with that fresh air wafting over you! I find that alternating work and refreshment works best for me.   Priscilla

Carol, glad you are feeling better. Sounds like some great food you are going to eat today. I was going to go on a out of town trip, changed my mind, feeling too bad. Its nice weather here. Been just sitting outside in the yard, reading. Afraid I will do more damage to my spine, if I try and do anything the least bit strenuous.

Thanks, Sunshyne.  And you’re right to baby that back until it’s been taken care of.  You don’t want the surgeon to run across any surprises in there. Carol

Thanks, Roger.  I blew it in a big way, carb-wise, but am already losing the weight I gained.  Just glad to be back in the saddle. Carol

Unfortunately, the temperature has been dropping, right along with the raindrops.  A fireplace would be nice right about now.  But I do plan on starting to read a book I bought on eBay recently.  It’s about reflexology. I haven’t looked at it in any detail, but I’d really like to learn the techniques, and see if it actually works!  :o) I find that alternating work and refreshment works best for me.

Yeah, I do too.  And my lower back agrees with me.  Washing dishes isn’t the greatest thing for an injured back.  BUT!  I just remembered a couple days ago that it’s recommended that you stand with one foot on something around 6-12 inches high, according to your height.  I’m still looking for something that I can use for this.  I’ve tried just lifting one foot, like a flamingo, and it does seem to help! How about a can of something?  Ajax or Comet bathroom cleanser would be about the right height, wouldn’t it? Priscilla

When my back isn’t cooperating, I pull up a chair to the sink. We have some barstools that work great. :) Jean M Loser and Quitter — -348/312/180 – 5′10" -Atkins Since 01/28/04 -Quit Smoking 03/07/04 -Curves Since 03/26/04

that the can *might* be tall enough.  I never thought of using a container of something.  Crisco would be best, but I don’t buy that stuff anymore. I’ll report back with my findings. Thanks, Priscilla!

You’re quite welcome!  I think I did the same thing some time in my past, so it popped into my head. Another idea — a roll of paper towels, on its side? Priscilla

Glad to hear that you are back on track. I have little kids who mess up my house before I even finish my house work. I find that if I set my goals before I even start, I am more likely not to get discouraged. I try to clean up the kitchen / family room first, then if my day is going well tackle other projects. I know what you mean about Laundry. I have been toying with the idea of taking it out to be done when there is 4+ loads to be done. But I am too cheap! LOL  Have a look at yourself, it is hard work to diet and exercise on top of everything else.  Do you think you are depressed?  Talk to your Doc. Take Care, Jennifer 230/206/140

Since moving to this house (no dishwasher), I have often thought that there should be laundromat-type places full of pay dishwashers.  Think it’d catch on? Do you think you are depressed?  Talk to your Doc.

I talk to him at least once a month.  Yes, I’m depressed, which is a part of my bipolar disorder.  I also have OCD, PTSD, ADHD, agoraphobia, and panic disorder.  Other than that, I’m the very picture of mental health! LOL! The above is why I’ve been doing so poorly of late.  Stress exacerbates a lot of my symptoms.  I have to start taking long walks when I’m stressed, instead of stuffing my already-bloated face with crap. As long as I’m feeling philosphical, I think that the reason I’ve been having such a terrible time sticking with low-carb is that I don’t want to be obsessive about it.  I’m trying to fight my mental illnesses in any way I can.  But I’ve learned, over the past month and a half (yeah, it’s been that long), that I have to be obsessive with this, or I’ll never succeed. It worked last year, and it will work now and in the future. I realize you have a reason to be wary, but I think for some people, it actually helps to obsess about a new WOE at first.  At least until it’s established as second nature.  My SO obsessed about WW for a couple of months, and I know my first 4-6 weeks eating low-carb, I was pretty single-minded about it. I’ve learned, over the past month and a half (yeah, it’s been that long), that I have to be obsessive with this, or I’ll never succeed.

This would be a good thing to be obsessive about. It worked last year, and it will work now and in the future.

Of course it will! Daria 166/145/140 sugar-free since 2/1/04 low-carb since 2/17/04

Thank you, Camille.   I’m embarrassed to report that I had climbed up to an all-time high of 230, two days ago.  Today, I’m down to 223.5.  Part of me feels pitiful for the way I let myself get swallowed up by fear and pain.  The other part of me feels empowered by the fact that I AM DOING IT now, and won’t let anything stop me.  The main thing is making it a habit, so it becomes as natural as breathing.  The current problems hit when I was re-starting, and a lot more emotionally vulnerable than I’d be if I’d been farther along.   I know this never would have happened last spring.  The reason that I know is that something even worse happened back then, and I stayed true to my WOE.  I truly want it to be as natural as breathing again. This time, I don’t hope I’ll make it, or think I’ll make it.  I *know* I’ll make it.  I feel strong and as healthy as someone my size can feel.  And I refuse to let the circumstances that made me feel bad in the first place destroy my health. Yeah, you’re right.  I’m not a disciplined person, and in order to succeed in this WOE, I must obsess, at least until cravings for awful things are gone.  It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this.
