I’ve used EMDR, and found it quite helpful for PTSD. If you can visualize particular incidents, it seems to be the gateway into releasing repressed emotion. It seems to be best for acute PTSD, by which I mean PTSD arising from a single traumatic incident, rather than PTSD arising from multiple, repetitive traumas (e.g. childhood abuse). Lar

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Just as in hypnotism, the repetitive movement of the eyes back and forth, following a visual cue, helps to open a pathway for reconnection to suppressed emotions from traumatic experience. The suppression is a survival tactic, but release is not easy. Somehow, EMDR permits a cathartic release of the burdensome emotional baggage. It’s not for everyone. Competent practitioners will do extensive testing and examination of a subject before proceeding with this therapy. Lar
