"Ego States"

Question:

Dr Mark Sorenson, a very noted clinical Psychologist, in Newton MA, diagnosed me as such 3 Yrs ago. It has to do with co-consciosness. I don’t know other than that. Rachel        He said the splits were not complete enough to cause separate consciousness. The good and the bad I sometimes remember where I left my car, if I am really careful. The bad is I never forget the A*use that Tr*a*mat*zed me so I suffer hypervigilance and ongoing PTSD etc. I hope that gives you some idea of what it is. Rachel

Response:

dear dreamspacer,         We agree with you.                   thanks                     with love                        amy penny said " dont trust books anyway, always oversimplified" , and she is right.

Response:

i don’t know, penny. i somehow doubt that the author of the book really knew either. ‘SELF’ isn’t something i’ve ever known, and i don’t know if i need to. dearshardik,                   there is a book about DID and egostate therapy called " the mosiac mind". My problem with it- i know what an ego state is ,but what is this SELF  the book keeps talking about.                        best                      penny

Response:

There’s a whole therapy dedicated to it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Thank you.  I didn’t know there was a whole book dedicated to it.  I’ll look for it. Thanks again, -Melissa

Thanks again, -Melissa – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – We think that a good resource on ego states is a book called Ego States: Theory and Therapy by John Watkins and Helen Watkins published by W.W.Norton,1997. They write (page 25): "An ego state may be defined as an organized system of behaviour and experience whose elements are bound together by some common principle, and which is separated from other such states by a boundary that is more or less permeable." Hope this helps, woodRiver Newsgroups: alt.support.dissociation Definition anybody?  Can anybody point me to a reference that specifically defines or discusses what "ego states" are and how they work/come into being etc.  What exactly does that mean? I can guess and kind of figure it out semantically of course! ;)  But I’d like some information that’s a little more concrete. Thank you in advance, -Melissa
