Hi Diana I take effexor for my PTSD. I was on Prozac for three years before that and changed to effexor last March. I started at 37.5 mg and worked my way up to 150 mg a day. It works very well for me as well. The one thing I found was I don’t have the headaches that I got on Prozac. A couple of things to remember on effexor (if your doc hasn’t already told you) is take it with food – it can be a bit hard on the stomach. Also, I found I was staying up much later than usual and I believe the effexor was keeping me up despite my sleep med. Now, if I forget to take it with supper I skip the dose. That’s not a problem. But effexor can also cause sleepiness, so you have to take it depending on how it effects you. Other than that, I have had no side effects. Take Care Lesleyanne The one and only chech! Mark, I never associated the crazy vivid dreams I have with my effexor. Hmm… Now that I think about it, maybe that is what’s causing them. Do you really think that your dreams are more vivid with this medication and how so? Sophie

Hi Diana, I have been taking Efexor XR 75 mg for 2 weeks. It has helped alleviate my depression. I did have some initial unpleasant side effects the first few days. It was worth persisting and the side effects diminished. Good luck, Meryl

I’m just getting switched over to Effexor, and while doing some research, found some info on the dreams…. Can’t remember exactly (sorry) but it seems to cause some fluctuation in the brain that can cause vivid dreams or nightmare – but of course, they’re not sure

Diana, Effexor XR works great for me. Out of all of the meds I have taken, it is by far the best. You start out at 37.5 and then work your way up. I take 150 mg now and my anxiety and depression are much better than they ever were. Just give it a chance and take things one day at a time. Sophie

Hi Diana, I just started taking Effexor a month or so ago. I’m up to 225mg. It is helping a lot. My sleep is messed up but it seems to be getting better. That’s about the only side effect so far—oh yeah and vivid dreams. Hope it works for you. best wishes, Linda
