Have you tried something to damp down the sympathetic nervous system, like a centrally acting alpha blocker? That would hit the whole cortisol blockade upstream, by reducing sympathetic activation. There’s also an angiotensin reuptake inhibitor that acts to inhibit the release of cortisol in response to sympathetic activation. I’m assuming you’ve got a doctor who’s willing to go a bit off road with you in treatment – if not, you’d probably have better luck getting a prescription for Zoloft than for Clonidine or Astressin.
