Question:
Well, I’m sorry you got the diagnosis you have gotten, but in a way, it’s a good thing. Now maybe you can get the appropriate help you need to be able to get better. It’s the first step in the right direction. It is scary. But it’s okay to be scared. You found out a lot info to absorb today. Can you do something that you enjoy, that normally relaxes you any? Say, a bubblebath, or a walk with your dog, or curl up and read a book, play with your kids (if you have any)? Whatever? Even if you don’t feel like it, and you have to force yourself, it can and often times does help. The point being, just try to be extra gentle with yourself right now. You’re not alone. You’ve come to the right place. Welcome to our little group. kat <bdsi…@webtv.net> wrote in message

My heart goes out to you and yet I remember what a relief it was to finally be able to "name" what was wrong with me. Plagued for years with symptoms I didn’t know I had PTSD. It helped me to know. You may look at your situation and seek therapy for insight and healing. For me, work was difficult due to the PTSD, depression, medication side-effects and another chronic pain issue. I applied for SSDI and am receiving it now. Just some random thoughts about where I was when I got diagnosed. Oh, and the medication (when I found the right ones) seemed like a godsend. Hi, i just want you to know that you’re not alone here. i am taking zoloft too. when i’m feeling down, i tried some sorts of distractions…turn the tv on and watch my favorite shows like animal planet, performing arts, comedy central, (laughter is the best medicine) home improvement/gardening, travel, and any show that eventually help me fall asleep…felt like I’ve been hypnotized–zzz’s!!!!!!!!! LOL listening to the radio, music help me a lot to rid of automatic negative thoughts. i do dance/exercise to keep me high and riding my mountain bike takes me to places to be in touched with nature, it’s very therapeutic…i get good laughs at everyone’s jokes from this group and of course, when it’s really gets rough and overwhelming…their supports comes handy~*~hope you feel better and take care ’cause you’re worth it~+~ leah y.

Now you can get some help
First thing is to take a deep breath and just sit for awhile to let the news wash over your body. If you are like me it will take you several years to accept the diagnosis. Take care of yourself and take it easy on yourself. The decision on what meds is not yours to make. You get to decide whether or not to follow the many recommendations you will get over the next few months from the PTSD pros, including the med selections, therapy etc. We tend to help folks understand the situations they are facing with PTSD; hope you decide to stay with this ng. Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy
