Crying, can't stop

Question:

Bob, It must be very difficult for you and your family/friends to cope with this. You mention that you sat and cried even prior to the medication? Do you think you are really getting better on this cocktail of anti-depressants and tranquilizers? I am asking this because sometimes (even with a placebo/sugar pill) people reported a difference in their bodies/minds. Since you still experience episodes of intense crying, I would suggest different medication. There are several out there to try. One being Sam-E (non-prescriptive, safe, natural and the chemical is always in every cell of our bodies). I wouldn’t suggest you dropping all of your medication to grab Sam-E, but ask your doctor about it – and about other options. Have you tried Prozac? It may work for you. Whatever you do… never take Paxil. Another thing to keep in mind when a psychiatrist insists on other medications/asks you to stay on the current ones you are on.. that.. when a patient gets better, a psych loses his/her job. Sounds cynical, but its the truth. I have studied psychology off/on for 18 years (I am 31 now) and roughly 4 years of that dealt with psychiatry, psychosis, medication and so on. If it were that someone could cure you, that person would lose you as a business client. I am concerned that you are drowning in a medication haze here. You seem like a good person.. I really would like to see this issue resolved. No one should be left to cry like this, you need proper help not just a series of medication. This is not to say medication won’t help or its a waste of time, because clearly part of your issue is chemical. There needs to be a balance there. Let me know what your doctor says. And I hope the side effects subside soon.. Anai – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anai, I am sure there is a chemical problem, especially as we loose the sunlight, my SAD rises its head to.  So along with depression, PTSD, then there’s the SAD. I think I am better on the meds than off–at least with the crying.  I used to sit on the couch and just rock back and forth or find a corner of the room and sit in it.  And cry all day–heavy stress/anxiety and depression. Now the crying is less, but still severe depression.  The new meds I am on are really making me sick.  The doc says the side-effects shouldn’t last more than three weeks. I feel terrible, with lots of stomach problems. I hope I make it.  I want so much to get better. I tried getting a hold of my therapist today, but he’s out of town.  It’s very difficult being alone in the house all day.  I need friends, someone to hold my hand and compassion, but it’s not here. Bob T Bob, Would you agree you have a chemical imbalance that is triggering the melancholy episodes? What were you like before getting on medication if I may ask? Would you say you were worse, better or the same as your current state? Anai Bob, How long have you been on Effexor, Lexapro and Ativan? What are you being treated for? Depression and anxiety? It sounds that you are overly medicated and lack the therapy you need to resolve issues. But mostly, it looks like your crying episode was chemical. Get a blood test from your doctor to test the levels of medication in your blood stream From that alone it can determine if one is lacking a presence and if one is overriding the other medications. It can help your doctor better tailor medication for you. Please keep me posted. Anai Thank you Anai, I have been on Celexa and Ativan for about 3 years.  I am being treated  for both depression and anxiety from PTSD.  I also have SAD. So, I am really messed up. I have a therapist and he helps but my depression is very severe. I just went off the Celexa about 3 weeks ago and started Lexapro.  I  started the Effexor last week at 75 mg. My depression is the melancholia type. I am just sad all the time.  Hopefully the Effexor will help with the melancholia.  I just have to wait for it to kick in.  All I am feeling  now are side-effects, especially tummy ache. Bob T

Thank you Emma, Today, Monday, I got good news in the mail.  But the address and contact brought back all the PTSD.  I feel completely apart.  I spent all day crying.  I kept telling myself to "STOP."  But it didn’t work.  I tried getting a hold of my therapist, but he’s out of town. What do you do, when even good news kicks of the PTSD and depression? My effexor, lexapro and ativan don’t seem to be working. I want to support and be a support to my wife, but all I do is cry. She say’s she can’t stand it and doesn’t want me in the room. I wanted to go to church, but couldn’t.  She’s at church now and I home alone, crying with deep sobs. Don’t know what to do… Why are some days so sad and out of control? Bob T
