Question:
I was reading CNN and Yahoo today about the Trade Center and Pentagon. Actually worked myself into anxiety. I felt that it was a flashback of a severe car accident I was in when I was young. 9 hours between an accident and eye surgery without sedation leaves a 2 year old suffering even when he is 40. Went through it for a while until some of the people in the office noticed it. I read my 10 cognitive distortions and started to realize I was doing 2 or 3 of the bad thoughts. Started to feel a little better. Still exhausted tonight from the stress. I was due to fly to Houston and was to be there at a large convention during the attack. I know Houston is far from New York and Washington but the fact of seeing the skies closed would have caused my anxiety to go nuts. Did not fly due to being subpoenaed to testify against someone in court. So I did not spend my week in the US (from Canada) during the Nation wide terror. May those who are rescued late be mercifully free from PTSD as I would not wish this on anyone. Jim
Response:
Jim, all I could think for the first hour I was awake this morning was LOOK AT ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT WILL HAVE PTSD. Now, late at night, I see workers trying to find bodies and survivors. MORE PTSD sufferers…I wouldn’t wish it on any of them =( Kristine
Response:
Hi Jim! > Did not fly due to being subpoenaed to testify against someone in court. So > I did not spend my week in the US (from Canada) during the Nation wide > terror.
My initial reaction: Your Higher Power was protecting you. Don’t forget to thank your guardian angel today. > May those who are rescued late be mercifully free from PTSD as I would not > wish this on anyone.
I’m sure that they will receive better care than we did. If this isn’t a Critical Incident, I’m not sure what it is. Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy
