Question:
Would someone direct me to appropriate places on the net to post requests for research participation to people with anxiety problems? The study myself and an associate are conducting is different from others in that it is based on direct input from participants. Any guidance in this respect would be appreciated. Please reply to this newsgroup. Thanks in advance. Gary Brown

This seems to be as good a place as any. How about posting the contact details and a bit more about what you are working on. You might like to post the same to: alt.support.ocd alt.support.trauma-ptsd alt.support.social-phobia alt.support.agoraphobia If they are appropriate to your research. Ian

Ian, Thanks for your reply–I’d like to do as you suggest but don’t want to rub anyone the wrong way. Are you sure posting such a request wouldn’t go against the group charter? Thanks again, Gary
Response:
As long as you just post one note, and post to each group individually (not crossposting) there should be no objection to your invitation. Studies in progress are something good to know about. I’d think that very true! How does one participate?
Now, with that question, you’re inviting "another" post
It’s not considered good netiquette for anyone to use newgroups for homework, studies or research (in the manner of asking for participation). However, since it’s an anarchy, anyone can do as they wish!

Gary, if I may suggest – it’s always been considered just as you say (for what that’s worth), and yes, you may very well ruffle feathers, and thus not get what you’re looking for. There’s no charter for "this" NG (there are guidelines and FAQs, but no charter was offered when the group was originally set up through alt.config)… <trust me on that point, folks Suggestion?? Put up a web site (there are plenty of "free" web sites available, such as Geocities) that contains the information on goals, "how to participate," etc., etc. Once that’s in place, *then* make one post to any newsgroup you’ve in mind (without cross posting, as Hanna has suggested) and don’t even look back (as there is certain it be some "we’re not guinea pig" posts that follow). It’s not personal, but by not looking back, you don’t have to see it (or especially, feel a need to "respond" to anything – a nightmare). You might follow up with a second post at least 2 weeks later, if you don’t have enough participants. That’s what I’d recommend for the best results, anyhow. Elliott — Used "wisely," your 2
