Question:
Ok…got another one for you. My doctor says I should apply for disability insurance, because my severe anxiety disorder makes it impossible for me to work. It never occurred to me to apply for disability because I never thought about myself as *disabled, only not trying hard enough. Can you get disability coverage if you haven’t worked in years? Anyone know?
Response:
Where I live, I can collect disability even though I haven’t worked steadily in about 6 years. my PTSD makes it hard for me to hold any kind of job for more than 6 months (if that) at any given time. the only thing is that I have to *prove* that my PTSD makes it hard for me. That’s where a psychiatrist comes in.

If you don’t work you can’t get SSDI but you can get SSI which here in Cali will get you $757 per month, BUT it also depends on your husband’s income http://www.insanitygirl.com
Response:
you have to work (pay into the administrative contract law) 20 of the last 40 quarters. no 40 quarters no ssi disability … no 20 of the last 40 quarters .. you do not qualify as you have not made the buy in yet. I started working and paying taxes at age 14 … and at age 23 I was totally disabled from cancer surgery and was given a 3 month letter by the surgeon who did the right radical neck dissection (textbook perfect). so i was out of the program for ssi disability as a civilian citizen … discharged with masses on neck, high temperature, and soreness to throat but not reddness … which is rather illegal but the war was over and had to get people out of the military. I spent most the last 20 years being in hospital and going to the other side … there is only a few years here and there that I could work and pay taxes, get quarters in. Now at age 50 from age 14, I now qualify for ssi disability from the quarters standpoint and I made application. It was turned down and now is in appeal .. or I am putting that together as I write this to submitt the appeal as provided by law with in the next 90 days. So far by the evidence at hand, SSI is saying that I am not disabled and at being a handyman/caretaker at some $300 a month on average that is substancial income and by that alone I do not qualify for disability. I have to get some more of the 4 volumns and 3 pounds of medical records from the Veterans Administration complied since 1976 to 2003 to submitt as evidence and a more severe disability rating from ssi will likely come forward. Its hard to get ssi disability first time out the door unless you have an arm or a leg missing. sumbuddie on da watchtower

i was talking about ssid — not just ssi – but I can understand how you mixed them up … good information you put out about ssi. which is for everybuddie and ssid is for people who have bought into the contract of administrative law and are then qualified to apply for ssid which is a different program as you so noted. have a wonderfull yellow alert low combat day babe … people are dying for Bush and his truthfull mis-statements based on massive intelligence failures again … which the GOP government run tee vee is all on about and still pours it out – about the illegal war based illegal lies. Clinton lied and they impeached him, same for Nixon and his lies to impeachemnt … in both those cases neither one killed any buddie for their lies – oops truthfull mis-statements of tom foolery. sumbuddie on da watchtower

In my whole 47 years I’ve only been able to work a total of (believe it or not) 9 MONTHS! I don’t get SSDI, but I DO get SSI. SSDI stands for Social Security Disability Insurance. SSI stands for Supplemental Security Income. There is a big difference. SSI has NOTHING to do with your Soical Security Benefits. Anyone can get SSI if they are physical or mentally disabled and are approved by the SSI disability doctors. You can’t make over a certain amount of money (neither can your spouse) You CAN own a home and one auto. You can NOT have any money saved in any bank. http://www.insanitygirl.com

No. You can, however, get disability for being disabled by mental problems, if you meet certain standards. The only way you’re going to find out if you qualify is to apply. Dragon
