Re Question?

Question:

You’re quite welcome, Elysium. There is also the International Society for the Study of Dissociation. Also David Baldwin’s Trauma Pages…oh- also look up "The Collin Ross Institute"  You can get info on shrinks in your area who may be able to daignose and treat you…. The treatment for DID is much more gentle than what you may have seen inthe movie "Sybil"…everything is geared to harm reduction, spotting triggers and avoiding them in therapy. All attempts are mad to *prevent* retraumatization….hypnosis is generally unaccptable in the treatment DID because it tend to mske the DIDer out of control and retraumatizes. DID ha a physiological basis- an area in the brain that normally is inactive is switched on. This makes itimpossible to do EEGs (brain wave measurements.  It occurs because of severe, repetitive trauma up to theageof nine years old. It comes closest to bi-polar disorder, except one isn’t delusional (im the manic phase) or exhibits psychosis (so called "Psychotic depression) in the depressive phase. Pharmacological managementis the same as PTSD. I hope thsi info helps a little more. The Collin Ross Institute Site also has a web page of the type of tests given to diagnose dissociation…you can takeone yourself just to see. The test is a very good way to learn how dissociation exists in you’re life- it’s almost like a free consultation. Collin Ross is the leading researcher in Disociative Disorders today. Also look for articles by or about Frank Putnam, M.D, and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I use to be on asd alot, except I’m not so disintegrated anymore…anyway Dissociation and Disociative Disorders *because* of PTSD, even Dissociative Identity Disorder. Yes people can hurt…but  they can help too. :-) I hope this additional infor  helps you, hon. Serenity and  Light, Cindy
