PTSD treatment at UBC Hospital…. does anyone have info?

Question:

due to suicidal thoughts / strong tendencies since childhood, i am headed to UBC hospital on monday. my therapist is going to call 911 when i get there to drive me to transport me to the hospital. she is a spceialist in men’s sexual abuse and depression, but she is only a therapist and not able to treat medically. ( but she is a damn good therapist. ) i am scared to go there. is a new place. and as i was once sexually traumatized while in hospital as a child i am more than a little nervous to go to any facility. UBC hospital is a teaching hospital and if there are any new treatments it would be there. any thoughts???? Roger

Response:

any thoughts????

p & e’d I’m glad to see you’re taking care of yourself by going in the hospital.  I’ve been in twice myself and I was scared as hell, but did find afterwards it was the right decision And I understand why you are especially fearful.  I think when you get there you need to find a staff person you’re comfortable with and tell them this info. Maybe your T could also say something.  You’re doing the right thing, Hon! Wishing you hope & courage, Lynn

Response:

thank you for your kind words and encouragement… i decided to go in with my therapist.  when i get to my scheduled appt i would tell her how i am feeling and dependant upon that response i will go. most likely i will be headed there within an ambulance. i dislike that thought, i think it a waste of valuable time for an ambulance to come. a police car would suffice. i may ask her for that instead of the ambulance, for i know she will be calling 911 from her office. i have much to do and think about before i go in.  i am over-whelmed with all the puter things that i have to do ( stopping email subscriptions, letting friends know where i’ll be ( and that i’ll be safe)). not to mention all the things that i have to do on a personal level. again… thank you roger

Response:

I don’t understand. If you are going in voluntarily, why can’t you (or your therapist) drive, or, failing that, take a bus or a taxi or whatever? Why is the police/ambulance escort necessary? pavanne – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – thank you for your kind words and encouragement… i decided to go in with my therapist.  when i get to my scheduled appt i would tell her how i am feeling and dependant upon that response i will go. most likely i will be headed there within an ambulance. i dislike that thought, i think it a waste of valuable time for an ambulance to come. a police car would suffice. i may ask her for that instead of the ambulance, for i know she will be calling 911 from her office. i have much to do and think about before i go in.  i am over-whelmed with all the puter things that i have to do ( stopping email subscriptions, letting friends know where i’ll be ( and that i’ll be safe)). not to mention all the things that i have to do on a personal level. again… thank you roger
