Question:
I work with the homeless. In our Safe Haven Program, we have a woman who was raped and threatened with death at 15. Since that time she has experienced continued traumatic events. I am looking for a residential trauma treatment program for her. She has no money, no support network and is in great pain. Do you know of any resources? Thanks, Bob

Bob, Hard question to answer without knowing at least what country you are writing from. Since you have an AOL addy, I can assume either Canada or the States. In Canada, any GP can most certainly refer her to relatively free psychiatric help – which she most probably needs. In the States – I only know what I hear from others. If she is on Medacaid/Medicare type service, then she should be eligible for psychiatric help. If not, and her income is not high enough for help from insurance (which I assume from your post), then she should apply immediately. (I’m sure there are american posters here who can give you more info). There are some excellent sites on PTSD that you might want to check out. http://www.trauma-pages.com/index.phtml http://www.mentalhealth.com/ http://www.ptsd.com/ Your support is important too. Just knowing you want to help is probably a great reassurance to her.
