Question:
Woo-hoo on your accomplishment today! I think only you can make this decision about your treatment. If you like where you are today, then continue with what you`re doing. You can also increase the Klonopin, if it works, stick with it, if it doesn`t, maybe then you can think about a AD. Talk to your doctor about this

Yeah I am thinking about trying to bump the klonopin up to .5 twice a day but I just wonder how much it can help with unreal feelings and obsessive thoughts. From what I understand it is not really meant for that. Hmmmm I guess I can try to up the dose and see if getting out in society helps the unreal feeling naturally go away and then if not I can try maybe Zoloft. Hey MAC if your reading this how is the Zoloft working for ya? I read you are thinking about going off the ativan so the Zoloft must be making ya feel good. Dustin

Hi Dustin, I must be really behind with posts. I have only just replied to 2 of your other posts not that similar to this post from you. I feel like I am repeating myself, so will try and keep it short. Don’t worry what other people are raving about. You need to find the med and treatment that will work for you. It sounds like Klonopin is helping you, as you have made some great progress getting out of the house. Well done BTW. I have taken K for 10 years and it keeps the anxiety under control, but doesn’t stop the feelings of derealisation that I suffer terribly from. CBT was the only way I could deal with these scary sensations. Vanessa

To me it seems like it would make me more spacey and even more out of it. Or maybe just a different kind of out of it hehe One doc way back prescribed me Prozac and I tried it one day and quit. I never gave it a chance at all. I got too scared. I have heard on the web of horror stories of people trying SSRI then not liking them and quitting and still feeling all messed up and having actual physical problems for up to 2 and a half years after! This scares me greatly. But everyone seems to rave about Celexa and how it helps depression and PA/anxiety and also tends to calm the mind and obsessive thoughts. The klonopin does make me feel better yes but I still am thinking about anxiety almost from the minute I wake up until I fall asleep. I went out for another drive today and ventured further than the safety of my area where I could always get home without hitting a light
I waited through a light and then went and mailed a letter! Anyway do you all think that if I continue on Klonopin and get out more that the obsessing will ease up and the unreal feeling too as I get out more and re adjust? Or should I give an SSRI a "real" try. Hmmmmmmmmmm hehehe Thanks in advance for thoughts guys and gals, Dustin

Hi Dustin, I recently switched from Xanax to Klonopin. Klonopin made me very spacey AND very anxious at first. I called my doctor and said, "This is not working!" She bumped me up to 1 mg. twice a day. Now it works, and I’ve adjusted to the different kind of feeling it gives me, compared to Xanax. I took Celexa for quite a while. In my case, it made me more anxious, even overriding the Xanax. Now I’m taking Effexor XR along with the Klonopin. It took some adjusting, but so far, so good. Hope this helps. I also want to mention that I took Paxil a couple of years ago. Paxil worked well. It just made me tired and gain weight. Or at least I blame the Paxil for the weight gain. I was also a first year teacher. That can do it too. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hmmm, The klonopin seems to be helping but I still feel like the disassociation or unreal some times. A lot of meds are used for disorders they aren`t approved to treat. Jackie
After being on the market for close to 50 years, the FDA has just formally approved Abbott’s Synthroid for thyroid disease management. Prozac was recently approved by the FDA for treatment of panic disorder. Using meds for treatment that has not been approved by the FDA is called "off label" use. Use of meds in dosages other than approved by the FDA is also called "off label" use. Chip

Hi Vanessa, What’s your dose of Klonopin? I’m currently on K. 3 mg/day. I found that Xanax 0.5 mg would relieve feelings of depersonalization/derealization in about 10 minutes. Chip

Hi Chip, After my setback last year I went from 2mg up to 4mg/day. I was so agoraphobic, always anxious that derealisation could strike out of the blue. I had tried Xanax many years ago and found it didn’t help me long term. I have never tried both X and K together – something to consider if ever I have another setback. I still have the odd surreal sensation (like the world suddenly doesn’t exist, or I don’t) but thanks to CBT I have strategies to manage it without getting anxious or panicky. So now i wish to slowly wean down the K. Am now on 3mg/day, same as you. I would love to go off completely. You say it is not addictive, but I feel as if I am dependant on this med. If i miss a tablet, I get anxiety which is not placebo i know. The best I can hope for is going back down to 2mg per day which I managed to do for 6 years prior to this last setback. I feel that i will be on K forever, but that is a small price to pay for feeling so great. Vanessa

CBT would help you with this. You may also be undermedicated on Klonopin. Philip – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

hmmm, I just went to the home page for Celexa and they never once mention it as treatment for anxiety or panic disorder of any kind! How strange! Most SSRI home pages like Zoloft list all the great things it can be for like PTSD or OCD or PD or Depression. But Celexa listed none. Who here actually takes Celeaxa for anxiety? Does it work? The only other SSRI I would want to try would be Zoloft. I don’t seem to want to try Prozac or paxil for some reason hehe Dustin
If you want to try an SSRI for obsessive thoughts Luvox might be the best choice. All SSRI’s including Celexa work for anxiety/panic. YMMV. Philip – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

All SSRIs can be used for OCD. I’m unaware of any evidence that Luvox is better for OCD than any of the other SSRIs. Chip

I was on Klonopin and Celexa at the same time. Over time Celexa caused me numerous serious health problems…I’d stay away from it. I’m just on Klonopin now and doing fine.

f horror stories of people trying SSRI then not liking them and quitting :and still feeling all messed up and having actual physical problems for up :to 2 and a half years after! On the flip side, there are many, many more people that have had great success with antidepressants. There is always a risk taking any medication, you will have people that rave about them, or hate them with a passion. This just doesn`t apply to psychotropics, but all medications. My psychologist wanted me to try Prozac and I was too scared, so I asked for Paxil and it has been such a great med for me. :This scares me greatly. You can also increase the Klonopin to see if it lowers your anxiety some more. Klonopin has never made me feel spacy or out of it. However, when I have experienced depersonalization/derealization secondary to anxiety, an increase in my daily dose of Klonopin has made those symptoms go away. Chip
