Question:
Hi Josephine– I too read the book in two days. The first DID book I’ve read–just diagnosed within the past month. Still reeling from the thought that I, too, am looking at this diagnosis, but the book offered insight, hope, compassion, and humor. Hope everyone gets a chance to read the book. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Just bought the book First Person Plural by Cameron West. I read it in two days. Great book. Goes more into detail about affects of DID on spouse/children.

Speaking of books, there is a wonderful (IMHO) forboth littles and adults. Sadly enough, it can be difficult to find. It is a small paperback book titled "United We Stand" written by Eliana Gil. Amazon.com might be helpful in locating it Margaret "You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." Christopher Robin to Pooh in "Pooh’s Grand Adventure"

Does anyone remember the name of the man who was on Oprah? I wanted to check his autobiography out. I checked a book out from the library about dissociation. It talks about a person with a "normal" life, one with "severe" ab*se who develops DID, and one with a life that is "inbetween" those two extremes. He calls this form of dissociation, "Ego State Disorder". He says that it is not a Dx in the medical books as of yet….but it was very interesting to read it. I wonder if you might be referring to the man on the Montel show? I don’t remember his name, but his M*th*r actually wrote the book and the name of it is "Magic Castle" by Carole Smith. Thanks, but I was refering to the man with DID that was on Oprahs show about a month or 2 ago. He wrote a book about his life as a person with DID. It was a good show… much better than that of Montels. That’s what it takes to be a hero, a little gem of innocence inside you that makes you want to believe that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end. — Lise Hand

His name was Cameron West, I think.

There was one on the Oprah show also. He was a good guy. It had Chris Sizemore’s son there and asked him a little bit, too. With another girl’s opinion. My boys tells me that they don’t even know the person my body is named. They just know my alters. Wise children. Oh Jackie, My SO would love for you to come visit our house. I can’t give a book away. I still have books from my childhood…I think at last count we had about 3000 books. I do read them again though. Books are like my teddy bear. They comfort me. I know it is an obsession, but I can’t help it. I love all those words, and the fact that books can teach me things and take me anywhere I want to go

Well, when I read a book. After I read it and try to read again I am so bored except from the book Oscar the Grouch Get Away From My Garbage Can. Boy ist is so funny. I laugh at the different ways he thinks he can stop from turning the page. And his expression when the page is turned. Well, GREAT!!!! I also like Grover book of ABC’s. He does the shapes out of his body and need less to say wearing himself out. I used to have a lot of the sesame street learning games, but when my kids got older I gave them away. I didn’t like things like shoots and ladders. I bought my kids things like the teach me reader. It was a computer like thing that just had about 12 books with it. You had to have it a certain way and push the star at the front of the book and it will read the name of the book. Everytime turning a page, you had to hit another star. You had a choice to push the dot under each individual word on each page or to push a button on the page to let it read to you. I don’t think they have it anymore. I also had a sesame street Talk and Play for the boys. It had so many books with it. It was so commical. It had a regular thing like a tape recorder and player. It had four different color buttons. And the interaction was good. If you pushed the wrong button, It would have another persons voice instructing or whatever. I would like to find me another talk and play the are real fun. Especially Can you tell me How to Get to Sesame Street? One of the page’s I remember the exact words. My name is Big Bird as you can see. My name begins with the letter? Different letters above each color. I remember my son enthusiastically hollering B!!! Well, have a good day. jackie – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – That is a good one. I gave my copy away. He calls this form of
dissociation, "Ego State Disorder". He says that it is not a Dx in the medical books as of yet….but it was very interesting to read it. < I was trained in the DSM IV when it first came out and the reason the diagnoses was changed from MPD to DID was to make way for those "people in the middle." The person doing the training described DID as a continuum with MPD on one end and PTSD in the middle and mild dissociation or what they call a fugue state (which is a separate diagnosis) on the other end. It is an idea that is much discussed in staff meetings and treatment centers around the country. I think one of the things it does is to lessen the stigma of MPD. (Lisa) I am certainly going to look for the book and thanks so much for including the call #. That is a great help. — Keep it Simple. Keep yourself Safe.
