Question:
I have PTSD, and was diagnosed in 1997. I recently found out that I am eligible for SSI. Is this true? Do any of you get SSI checks? Please eMail me directly! Thanks for your help! Steph

Hi Steph! First, welcome out of Lurker Land

I do know folks who get SSI payments due to diagnosed PTSD. I am supposedly applying retroactively for benefits myself. I’ve learned so far that the SSA folks seem to believe that I am attempting to ’steal’ their own personal money. :/ Anyway, I’ve learned over the years that, so long as I have PTSD symptoms, I am not capable to fight the system for myself (fighting the system for someone else … that’s a different issue
. Thus, if (probably) you are declined for disability payments, it is time to find an experienced SSI attorney; her/his fees are paid by SSA, not the successful applicant. If an attorney wants you to pay her/him, then find someone else … this is a contingency fee situation. The discouraging words from the SSA folks included ‘If you can be a welcomer at Wal-Mart, then you are not disabled’. Of course, I immediately thought ‘well, I can do that’. Upon reflection, I could only do that for 10 minutes without dissociating big time. > Please eMail me directly! Posted and e-mailed. Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy
