ptsd and depression

Question:

Hi Donna! Welcome.  I’m sorry that you seem to qualify for this ng. > But now I am finding myself in a deep depression.  Is > this a part of ptsd?  Has anyone found depression to be > a symptom of ptsd?

It is normal to have depression associated with PTSD.  IMO the chemical changes in my brain associated with PTSD seem to correlate with the chemical changes in my brain causing depression.  That’s why medications are important for controlling the symptoms of both.  YMMV > How much stress n anxiety can a person > withstand anywho?

As much as we can until we completely fall apart and qualify for hospitalization. :/ Smile and there will be something to smile about! Nancy

Hi Donna Depression isn’t a specific symptom of PTSD but is an ‘associated’ condition.  This means that it is a separate illness that can occur in many people – perhaps a majority of people – suffereing from PTSD. It certainly can feel like depression is just another problem to add to the list of problems that PTSD can cause but depression can be treated very successfully.  Treatment for both PTSD and depression can be similar in many aspects as well – some SSRI medications (anti- depressants) are now being recognized as being effective in treating some of the symptoms of PTSD.  For example, I found that taking an anti- depressant reduced the number and severity of my flashbacks. You’d be amazed at how much stress and anxiety a person can take. Are you seeing a therapist now?  As you feel you’ve gotten your PTSD symptoms under control, this could be just a bump in the road that you need to address. .. Hello Donna At first I did not think I had depression. But after the first relapse I became aware of it, the second relapse really brought it out. But it can be part of the injury. Richard

I’ve been lurking for months and have decided to take the plunge.  Hello, everyone. I am getting my ptsd somewhat under controls thanks to being triggered so many times that I now know what to stay away from and whom to stay away from.  Hard way to learn.  My ptsd comes from hideous childhood and adult trauma. But now I am finding myself in a deep depression.  Is this a part of ptsd?  Has anyone found depression to be a symptom of ptsd?  I just went thru a divorce so most likely that is playing a part in this and I’m selling my home and moving so that, too, is probably bringing me down some.  How much stress n anxiety can a person withstand anywho? peace in healing Donna
