PTSD????

Question:

Oh excuse DISORDER "They cry in the dark so you can’t see their tears.  They hide in the light so you can’t see their fears.  Meanwhile love & pain become one in the same in eyes of a wounded child."

I am *not* an expert, but PTSD has been explained to me as — well, a good example is to think of Vietnam war veterans who were traumatized in their war experience.  They come home and the war is over and it’s peacetime, but certain things can "trigger" them into feeling, thinking, and perceiving things around them as if the war is still going on.  The feelings are very real.  The vets’ perception at these times, however, is *not* accurate.  But for them, it’s real.  They can suffer from this on a fairly unconscious level, not just on a dramatic, episodic level.  (Compare Sylvester Stallone’s portrayal in "Rambo – First Blood" to Henry Winkler’s portrayal in "Hero.") I suspect a lot of us suffer from this on this sort of unconscious level. Takes effort to sort out what’s real in the Real World and what’s real "to us." Kid-Streak – I am trying to learn to feel content with what I have, where I’m at, for right now. –

I have been "Diagnosed" with several "Things". I tend to not like being labled but have to be honest with myself so that I can help myself get better. I have to seek out information just like all of you are doing here. To understand what each "Diagnoses" really is and what and how it affects me in my everyday life. I have Gulf War Syndrome and PTSD. Which are two different "Things" than "Depression" which is just as rough on anyone as the other.    You are right in the fact that we live out what has already happened in the NOW from what we encountered in the THEN. It is a unconcious reaction that happens and is friehgtening to me anyway. I have found myself in some unusual places.    But, PTSD isn’t just from War Time. It also occurs from traumatic happeningst of each person. It could mean that when you were a child, you saw someone die in front of you and now, as an adult, something triggers you and you become so frightened that you become "Unglued" at the seams so to speak and act out. Or, you may have been subject to some sort of abuse as a child.    PTSD////// hmmm////  It tells us that we are alive still just as does depression, but if it were up to me, I would rather do without a leg or an arm then to have all that I have now. This is not a pitty trial by any means but this is what I have….. PTSD form childhood Sex abuse, PTSD form the WAR, GWS, Majour Depression, Panic Attacks and so forth. I guess there are others out there that are far worse than I am. and I hope and pray, that the help they seek is helping them and that day by day, they get better.    As some of you know, I have lost my job and am in a majour episode of depression. Just finding out about the PTSD from the WAR was a shocker to me as I was Taken to the VA Hospital and VET Center, for hours of questions. It was like being in intterigation and it wasn’t fun. In one of my last posts, I mentioned that I might be off to the Hospital for awhile and sake if anyone lived in Oregon that wanted my REBA ticket. That still goes. I am going to the Pdoc on Monday and most possibly, to the hospital after that.    PTSD, Depression, Stress, and then some, they are all handled differently by each of us, I just don’t seem to being so well right now. Hope that this answers what PTSD is or how it can happen. Good luck. Hugs, Joseph R.
