EMDR

Question:

has anyone heard of Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing? I think that is the correct write out. My wife is at Menninger’s Clinic and EMDR is the newest and latest thing.  She was diagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder, but they are calling it Dissociative Disorder with Borderline traits. There are net connections on this….www.emdr.org

Response:

Yeah, my therapist uses EMDR.  He says I have diagnoses of both bpd and post-traumatic stress.  He uses the EMDR when the ptsd symptoms rear their ugly heads.  I think of it mostly as a relaxaation technique–and it works really well for that, especially when past memories become overwhelming.  I don’t se it as the cureall I’ve seen it described as in some articles.  Just one more part of my therapeutic regimen.  And all these parts are helping me get better.  In that sense, I think EMDR is a good thing. lisa
