Arnie–When I was researching my MA thesis, which was on Progressive Era prostitution in Canton, Ohio, I learned early on that one of my favorite madams–Ollie Schnovell, was an amother.  Her mother was also a madam and salonkeeper, and her uncles were gamblers who ran many of the local rackets, and her husband was a professional gambler and saloonkeeper.  Oh, boy, I loved this.  Can you imagine the home study report!  Actually, t hey didn’t have those back then–adoption was very informal.   Hmmm.  I can only imagine who original parents of her son were.  Anyway, I wrote the guy a letter–he was in his 70s at that time–and he refused to discuss his mother and her family with me.  Said, "they" said a lot of things about her.   By all means necessasry, Marley Founding Foundling, BN Department of Bastard History The world is a bastard

I would think the majority of people know, you don’t?  Where do you fit in the triad? You realize that prostitution is legal in Nevada, right?

Of course I know it is legal in Nevada, but being legal doesn’t make it an acceptable occupation. Not that I agree with choosing that profession…..but what is right for me might not be right for you or anyone else….

Don’t you have an honest opinion?  It appears as if you are sitting on the fence, fall one way when it fits, fall the other when it fits . . . not unlike most politicians. Most politicians are "prostituting" themselves in one way or another anyway……so who cares what she used to do, I don’t.

Selling your body is a far cry from selling lies.  Neither are morally good, but I’d rather sleep with a seller of lies than a seller of the body – at least I’d have better odds not  ending up with STD’s.  You don’t have to care, no one asked you to!  I just hope you aren’t an amom because with the responses you have given here you would give birth mothers reason to have nightmares. Once again, this sounds like the beginning of am amom/bmom war over something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with adoption.

That’s absolutely ridiculous!  I would imagine 99.9% of all amoms would think this is NOT an appropriate occupation for ANY mother to have.  Being an amom makes it much worse IMO because someone somewhere has entrusted this woman to raise a child with morals and decency and she obviously is NOT doing so. The daughter is ADOPTED so why does it IYO have nothing to do with adoption?  Make you feel better to think that?  The amom is the one that called herself a whore, actually she said the new slang word ‘hoe’ (she said it was an affectionate name they called eachother in the whorehouse she worked in) she’s the one that a few sentences later said she had an adopted daughter, she is the one that broadcast all of this on tv.   Beacause the womans’ daughter happens to be adopted doesn’t mean diddly in relation to her decision to become a prostitute.

Oh yes it does!  It means a hellova a lot to mothers that surrendered their child so that child ‘could have a better life’.  I’m sure a birth mother would love to hear her child was raised by a whore, great for the self image of a child I’m sure (NOT).   As you have seen here in this very place a lot of adopted people already have a problem with self esteem, they do NOT need something like this to contend with as well.  I for one would probably have shot the woman that raised my son if she’d been a prostitute.   How do you think any child would feel to hear their amom say they sold their body in part for them?  There are far too many decent jobs in this country to use a child as an excuse to sell your body.  This was NOT her only excuse however, just one of them, the one she chose to name. Trust me, if one of my kids needed medical help, and the only way I thought I could get it was to sell my body…I’d be the first one on the corner with a mattress tied to my back hollerin’ "CURB SERVICE!"……

Well you go sell your body, but I’d prefer to get 3 jobs if necessary to help my child.  I did work when I had a tumor in my colon and couldn’t sit up so that my stepson could stay in a treatment facility he desperately needed so I’m not blowing smoke here; you can find a legitimate way to take care of a child, you don’t have to sell your body, that’s for sure. Working many hours one may not be able to be home very much, but the child could hold his/her head high that their mother was a good, honest, decent woman that loved them enough to put out whatever effort was needed to care for him/her.  There are also many organizations that help children with medical problems.  I know this for a fact because I’m in several of them and we raise millions for children that need medical help. There are much more important things to worry about than what this woman chose as her "profession".

Depends on who you talk to. The "Primal Would" apologists will tell you that I got messed up when I was no longer able to listen to my birthmother’s favorite soap opera like I did "in utero". Sure there are plenty of jobs that pay $25 for 15 minutes work. I can think of more ingenious, less personally demeaning ways to get money.

If it’s any of your business, which I don’t belive it is, I’m adopted. I’m NOT an amom or a bmom……so your nightmare theory doesn’t apply. I’m also not a woman, so I would never even begin to suppose that I could understand what that woman, or any woman, might choose to do with their body. Not that I would not try to be sympathetic to their situation….it’s just that a man might not understand the things that a woman would understand about her own body. I honestly believe that women are more understanding and empathetic than men are……just my opinion. As far as the morality question goes….if you took the time to really read what I wrote, you would see that I said that I DID NOT agree with her decision to be a prostitute, but that I would not try and impose my view of what is, and is not, morally right on anyone else. I have very definate opinions on moral issues, but those opinions are mine, created and embraced by me alone…..those opinions are expressed by me at the polls, when I vote, and at my home with my family, not to people that do not solicit them. I honestly believe you missed the gist of what I was trying to say…..merely that adoption was not the central issue to this woman deciding to be a prostitute and that her decision was hers and hers alone to make, and that the amom/bmom issue had nothing to do with this. That’s all. I would suggest that before you decide to flame somebody for their opinion, take the time to really try and understand what they are saying….maybe everyone else doesn’t express themselves as well as you do.

Prostitution is an inappropriate profession for a mother.  Even if she tries to hide it, the kids end up finding  out.  Men call the house all hours of night and day and it is dangerous for children to be  in this kind of environment.  It can make daughters either think this is an appropriate way to deal with men or go the opposite way and have very violent reactions against unwanted sexual advances.  I know a young woman who was arrested in Rome for almost killing a man who groped her on a public bus.  She went insane and started beating the living shit out of him.   Oh yes it does!  It means a hellova a lot to mothers that surrendered their child so that child ‘could have a better life’.

Well, some whores have a heart of gold, like Sonya in Dostoevsky’s "Crime and Punishment".  Many of them were sexually abused and emotionally neglected as kids.  Some may not become prostitutes until after they get their adopted kid.  They may have seemed all perfect during the homestudy.  This could happen. I was watching Northwest Afternoon this evening; the woman being interviewed (Jessie Winchester) is running for Congress in Nevada.  She is also an x-hooker and seems proud of it since she was prostituting herself in "elegant surroundings" as she put it. In defense of herself and her occupation she stated her daughter was adopted, had a medical condition and that had a lot to do with her decision to enter the world of Hookerville.   Since a few on here consider bmoms to be whores (which of course I am in total disagreement with) I thought it interesting an amom would use her adopted daughter as an excuse to sell her body.   What do you think?  Think this is a good reason to turn to whore"dumb"? Think since she is an amom instead of a bmom it’s ok?   Wanda
