Question:

Wellbutrin and Topamax. Fourth time on Wellbutrin.  Hope it dosen’t wreck my stomach again. Anybody know anything about Topamax?

I’m on Topamax. It’s a mood stabilizer whose original use is helping epileptics control their seizures. It has worked nicely for me.  It might make you lose a little weight. minx

Anybody know anything about Topamax?

Topamax (Topiramate) is an anti-convulsant medication which also has proven successful in treating affective disorders.  (Others include Depakene, Depakote, Tegretol and Lamictal.)  It is especially effective in controlling bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.  The usual dosage in such cases is 50 to 200 milligrams per day.  Therapeutic effects may take up to a month to be established. The most common side effects of Topamax are sedation, dizziness, vision problems, unsteadiness, speech problems and psychomotor slowing.  These effects are often transitory, and normally disappear after several days. The use of Topamax as a psychotropic medication is very recent.  It was approved in the U.S. as a prescription drug in December 1996.  Since it’s only been on the market slightly more than five years, the potential hazards of long-term use have not yet been established. Complete information on Topamax is available on the World Wide Web courtesy of the manufacturer, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, at: http://www.ortho-mcneil.com/products/pi/pdfs/tpamax.pdf HTH.
