EMDR and ADD

Question:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Thanks for everyone’s input, in the past week.  It’s nice to have somewhere to turn for information, and help. Is anybody familiar with EMDR, my therapist says it is very contriversial, but she has researched and studies it for a number of years and is sold on it Brent, My employer provides us with an Employee Assistance Program (Psych Services) and I know they use EMDR for treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – I know people who have benefited greatly from 3 sessions. The initials stand for Eye Movement Desensitization something, I think!?! It involves the Psych moving his/her hands to make the patients eyes move in varying patterns at a pretty quick pace – a form of hypnotherapy I think. I haven’t heard of it being used for ADHD though. I’d be interested to find out more – keep us posted. Fuzzy :)

Currently, there is no known treatment of ADHD using EMDR.  As someone alluded to, it’s used effectively for PTSD.                         Donna, an ADHD counselor

EMDR must be practiced by a licensed professional in EMDR.  It involves eye movement, singing, touching your body in a techincal process which reduces anxiety and feelings of trauma for victims.                         Donna

If you’re talking about eye movement desensitization, it is mostly used for trauma victims (PTSD, etc.).  Florida State University has some specialty in that area.
