Zoloft dosage

Question:

I was wondering if anyone taking Zoloft for panic disorder could post their daily dosage of same. I recently started on 50 mg. and have been doing better, but now my panic attacks are coming more frequently again and at night also. Do you build up a resistance to an SSRI, and constantly have to take more to keep the attacks at bay? What happens when you get up to the maximum daily dose of 200 mg.? Thanks in advance.  Hi Tricia, I started on 50 mgs. 2 years ago and still take 50 mgs. How long have you been taking the zoloft? I know when i first started at times it seemed like it was’nt working, but after awhile I began to notice that I was less and less anxious all the time. I have never had to up my dosage, but I know the doctor has asked me several times if I thought I would like to try.( he seemed to think that if I was doing this well on 50 mgs. I might do wonderful on more) I guess some people need a higher dosage..I would talk to your doctor about it if you feel its not working to your satisfaction. Hi Tricia, There is a good chance that you are undermedicated at this point. The minimum therapeutic dose for Zoloft is 100mgs.  You should talk to your doctor about increasing your dose slowly to 75 or 100mgs. You may never get to 200mgs, there are quite a few posters that have done well on 100 mgs, it can`t hurt to try. Take care :) Jackie

I was taking only 50mg. for about 6 months and just last week I started taking 75 mg. it seems as though it may have started fizzing out. I also take .75 to 1 mg. of xanax a day. When I started taking the 75mg. of zoloft lastweek i said to myself this is a waste of time, maybe I should just up my xanax, well good news for the past three days I have felt great and it is defiently because of the zoloft change!!! I say go for it up the dose it should work fine. OH AND BY the way I found by not worrying about what if I get up to 200mg. a day I FEEL BETTER. Don’t worry about tomorrow, tomorow will take care of itself.. :) Good luck, Paul Boca Raton FL.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to up my dosage to 75 mg. this weekend. I have both Klonopin and Ativan as well, I just hesitate to take them (I am med phobic). I am afraid the benzo will make me dopey during the day and I am a single mother to a 2 year old. I was wondering if anyone taking Zoloft for panic disorder could post their daily dosage of same. Is the alright to do? : thanks heaps :) : Hi Chris, I’m taking 100 mg Zoloft in the AM as a maintenance dose for PD. It’s best to work with your pdoc on this issue.  If you’re feeling alot of anxiety on 25 mg, then the pdoc may adjust your schedule for tapering up to a dose that will ultimately be strong enough to help you. I took off from work when I was increasing my Zoloft dosage so I was willing to put up with any side effects as I increased the dosage.  I was also taking Clonazepam which is known to benefit people who are weaning on SSRIs. Take Care, Tony
