I took it for a speech once (2 mg) and it mellowed me out enough to not stumble over my words. I don’t think it’s the best for long term SAD treatment though. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

It’s really good for panic attacks. It may help for social phobia. Just be careful with it. It may be hard to get off of. >>has anyone ever taken xanax for social phobia? >xanax for social phobia…hmmm… >i take xanax , but i take it for panic attacks. >so, i guess it would be effective you have social phobia associated with >panic >disorder >*LiZ* >staring…@aol.com >http://welcome.to/mysleep

Yes, I take an average of 1.5 mg of Alprazolam (generic equivalent of Xanax) per day.  I’m also taking 40 mg of Celexa, an anti depressant, in conjunction with the Alprazolam. The Alprzolam is very good at preventing panic attacks.  What I’ve found works best for me is to take it in sufficient quantity an hour or two before an "event".  I’ve found that if I meter it out over each day that I don’t have enough in my system to blunt an attack. However, I have a "deal" with my MD that when I take a large dose (like 1 to 1.5 mg all at once) that I’ll cut back so the overall average doesn’t go above 1.5 mg daily.  This is also where the Celexa comes into play as a supplemental drug, in that it significantly lessens anticipatory anxiety on an ongoing basis. I disagree with you re. using Xanax for long term treatment.  I have chronic sp, going on more than 30 years now, and I’ve taken Xanax since 1984 or ‘85.  It has helped me immensely. As far as the potential for addiction, my current dose of 1.5 mg per day has been constant for about 3 years.  It may eventually increase; I don’t know.  The really important fact is this:  I don’t give a rat’s ass if Xanax eventually shortens my life somewhat as long as it helps me to live somewhat normally versus being in a state of constant dread. Thanks, Ryan. I’ve tried so MANY different benzos and anti-Ds (it’s been nearly 20 years)  that now I’m trying to take no meds, just follow a book I read called The Diet Cure. My current working theory is that poor nutritional habits aggravate it all, and it’s not as bad if I stay away from sugar and alcohol. I think all the adrenaline we’re used to as SPs has got our systems out of kilter. Meantime, I just try to force myself and ’swallow’ the humiliations. Who knows–I never actually tried restoring my health as a curative technique before. Does anyone else think low blood sugar surges contribute? That’s when I get real ‘locked inside myself’.

How long have you used  Klonopin and how much do you take? Have you tried Paxil?  does Klonopin work better? I have tried Paxil and it just makes me tired.  I am hoping to switch to Klonopin. thanks – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Ryan wrote in message <38214f90.14193…@betanews.enteract.com>… >On 01 Nov 1999 02:54:47 GMT, deren…@aol.com (DeRennes) wrote: >>>has anyone ever taken xanax for social phobia? >>Yes. Doctors tend to only give it for a while (usually with CBT) and upon tapering, scratch their heads when the patient relapses. — CAUTION: Email Spam Killer in use. I have taken it and it really helps if you have very high anxiety, but my I moved and my new doctor won’t prescribe it because it is addictive for some people.  Most doctors don’t realize how helpful it is for people with anxiety. Its hard to get a prescription for it.  But I wasnt addicted at all.
